Full Job Description
Sr Technical Program Manager Hardware
Hardware Eng • Reports to: Director, Mechanical Eng • Full Time • Office/Remote /Hybrid
Your Role at Pura:
As Sr Technical Program Manager Hardware on the Hardware team, you own the execution engine behind Pura's growing device portfolio. You drive engineering schedules, cross-functional dependencies, and JDM/ODM partner coordination so our programs ship on time, to spec, and with no surprises. You turn ambiguity into a clear plan the team can execute against, and you keep that plan honest as programs evolve.
You partner closely with our Engineering Program Leads, who own technical direction, and with the PMO, who owns broader organizational coordination. In this three-way model, the Engineering Program Lead owns the "what" and "how," you own the project execution path, and the PMO owns the organizational wrapper. That clear split frees our technical leads to focus on engineering while you drive the program across the finish line.
You own the plan and the path: building realistic, integrated schedules; surfacing critical-path risks before they become delays; tracking deliverables across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and manufacturing; and holding vendors and contract manufacturers accountable. You catch the cross-functional timing risks: packaging, beta, test readiness that quietly push programs late, and you make sure we have a clear timeline before we commit to a phase.
You will help us inspire a belief in the power of fragrance to craft and elevate memorable moments for our Owners. This is your chance to make an impact in a high-growth company that's redefining the way people experience scent.
What You'll Own:
• Program schedules & milestones - Build and maintain integrated engineering schedules across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and manufacturing with clear milestones, critical path, and phase gates (EVT / DVT / PVT) so the team always knows what's next and what's at risk.
• Cross-functional dependency management - Drive the hand-offs between disciplines and functions: packaging, testing, beta, manufacturing, catching timing risks early rather than discovering them late.
• JDM / ODM & vendor coordination - Serve as the dedicated technical program contact for JDM/ODM and vendor partners: drive communication, hold partners accountable to deliverables and dates, and act as a technical point of contact for partner-led initiatives with support from the hardware development team.
• Deliverable & risk tracking - Track engineering deliverables to closure, maintain the program risk register, and escalate early - with mitigation options, not just problems.
• Cadence, actions & closure - Run program cadences and reviews, capture decisions and action items, and drive them to done so nothing falls through the cracks.
• Stakeholder alignment & Risk Communication: Proactively communicate program status, risks, and timeline changes across the org - to engineering, cross-functional partners, and executives - in terms each audience can act on.
• Partnership with Engineering Program Lead & PMO - Keep technical direction (Engineering Program Lead), engineering execution (you), and organizational coordination (PMO) in sync with clear ownership, no gaps, no duplication.
• Budget Management: Work with engineering and finance teams to track and communicate budget status for the hardware programs.
What Success Looks Like:
• Every program has a clear, realistic, integrated schedule, and the team always knows the critical path and what's next.
• Cross-functional dependencies (packaging, test, manufacturing) are surfaced and sequenced early, not discovered late.
• Engineering Program Leads spend their time on technical leadership, not timeline management. Program coordination is fully owned.
• JDM/ODM and vendor partners are accountable to committed dates and deliverables.
• Risks are visible early with mitigation options, and escalations arrive with a path forward.
• The hardware org ships more predictably as the portfolio scales toward a faster release cadence.
Qualifications:
• 7+ years of engineering program or project management experience in consumer hardware or connected devices, taking products from concept through mass production.
• Deep experience managing the hardware NPI lifecycle and phase gates (EVT, DVT, PVT) across mechanical, electrical, and firmware workstreams.
• Proven track record coordinating JDM/ODM partners, contract manufacturers, and vendors, driving timelines, accountability, and technical deliverables with external teams.
• Mastery of program management fundamentals: integrated scheduling, critical-path management, dependency mapping, risk management, and clear status reporting to both technical and executive audiences.
• Strong technical fluency across hardware disciplines, enough to understand trade-offs, pressure-test estimates, and earn engineers' trust, without owning technical direction yourself.
• Excellent cross-functional communication and influence: you create alignment and accountability across internal teams and external partners without relying on positional authority.
• Comfort operating in ambiguity and a fast-scaling environment - turning unclear scope into an executable plan
Nice to Have
• Experience standing up or scaling a program management function or practice as an organization grows.
• Background with IoT / smart-home devices or wearables hardware.
• Familiarity with manufacturing and supply-chain processes (DFM, tooling, and production ramp).
• Fluency with program/PM tooling (e.g., Jira, Smartsheet, or MS Project) and a bias toward lightweight, durable processes.
• Experience supporting an annual (or faster) product release cadence.
