DescriptionNorthrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a
Sr. Staff Hardness Lead Engineer (level 6) with the background, vision, and people skills to serve as a senior technical leader in the Infrastructure (INF) Operating Unit (OU). This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel program.
The Hardness Lead Engineer report to the Launch Systems (LS) INF Deputy Chief Engineer and is responsible for ensuring robust, timely, and well-coordinated technical products within the Infrastructure scope of work; identifying, actioning, and measuring technical process improvements and optimization; and working with other technical leaders across the Sentinel program to represent Infrastructure work products and dependencies.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Review INF work products via peer reviews, Design Reviews, and various board meetings to drive design best practices and ensure adherence to the Sentinel technical baseline and associated requirements and processes.
- Balancing stringent quality standards for technical artifacts (e.g. Technical Data Packages, Product Data Packages) with the rapid pace of procurement, fabrication, and construction of test assets and early prototypes.
- Presenting sufficient information to Program Management to make informed decisions between conflicting technical approaches based upon program and IPT-level cost, schedule, and technical impacts and risk.
- In coordination with the Office of the Chief Engineer, championing process improvements that allow the systems engineering, design engineering, and analysis teams to define and board high quality products in a cost and time efficient manner.
- Serve as the OU technical expert in the areas of nuclear effects testing/analysis, survivability, structural analysis and qualification for technical adequacy
- Evaluate uncertainty and risks associated with nuclear effect mitigation strategies and provide recommendations to the Office of the Chief Engineer.
- Working closely with technical leadership and contributors across the program to identify impacts on INF work scope resulting from external changes or impacts on external stakeholders resulting from INF artifacts.
- Developing joint solutions to cross-segment or cross-element technical challenges, balancing impacts, risks, and opportunities to identify the best overall options for the Sentinel program.
- Decomposing direction from INF leadership and Office of the Chief Engineer to technical teams performing work and ensuring understanding and adherence to that direction.
- Negotiating competing priorities and interests across a wide range of internal and external stakeholder communities to pursue the best course of action for the Sentinel program.
- Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of distinct internal organizations, customer communities, subcontractors, and industry partners.
- Providing regular briefings, reports, and other communications to executive leadership.
- May be required to travel up to 25% of the time.
Typical Minimum Education or Experience- T06: 14 Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; 10 Years with PhD.
- Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance at time of application with an investigation completed within the last 6 years
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in Nuclear hardness analysis experience
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in Systems Engineering on an Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) program phase of a complex system.
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience.
- Strong understanding of nuclear weapon effects
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with MBSE software, including DOORS and Cameo.
- Active DoD Top Secret with existing SAP clearance
- ICBM Experience
- Strong understanding and broad application of engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities
- Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations

This position's standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

#SentinelSystemsPrimary Level Salary Range: $166,500.00 - $249,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
