Job DescriptionOur team is building is building a modern hybrid cloud platform from the ground up to support the next generation of applications across our organization. The platform provides the foundational infrastructure, container runtime environments, developer tooling, messaging systems, and observability capabilities required to run reliable and scalable applications.
This is a greenfield engineering opportunity. The team is designing and implementing the core platform architecture that will operate across our data centers and cloud environments. Engineers on this team help define how infrastructure is provisioned, how Kubernetes platforms are operated, and how automation enables consistent and scalable operations.
Our approach emphasizes software-driven infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code, Git-based workflows, and modern observability practices. Engineers on the platform team build production-grade systems that reduce operational complexity and enable teams to operate systems through automated and self-service capabilities.
Work Location: Onsite at one of the listed locations; remote candidates may be considered.
ResponsibilitiesThis role improves how work gets done across the organization by designing and delivering software and automation that reduce manual effort, improve efficiency, and support reliable operations at scale.
This role focuses on developing tools, workflows, and services that support both developer and operational workflows, including infrastructure provisioning, deployment pipelines, environment management, and day-to-day operational tasks. You will work across systems and teams to streamline how applications are built, deployed, and operated.
In addition to building automation, you will identify manual, repetitive, or inefficient processes and determine whether they should be automated, simplified, or eliminated entirely. You will use code, APIs, and system integrations to replace manual work with scalable, repeatable solutions.
Success in this role requires strong technical skills, curiosity, and a mindset focused on improving systems. Engineers in this role continuously identify high-impact opportunities to simplify workflows, reduce operational toil, and help teams work more efficiently.
We are hiring at multiple levels and value strong foundational programming skills and curiosity over prior domain-specific experience.
Platform Automation Engineering - Identify manual operational processes across infrastructure, platform, and operations teams that can be automated
- Design and build automation systems that reduce operational toil and improve reliability
- Develop tools and services that enable teams to provision and manage infrastructure through automated workflows
- Build automation that supports consistent operations across hybrid infrastructure environments
Automation Development & Tooling - Develop automation systems using modern programming languages (Go, Python, Java)
- Integrate automation with infrastructure APIs, platform services, and operational tooling
- Build internal tools that improve operational workflows and reduce manual intervention
- Develop reusable automation frameworks that can be adopted across IT teams
Infrastructure & Platform Integration - Automate infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management using infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
- Integrate automation with Kubernetes platforms, CI/CD systems, and Git-based workflows
- Support automation of operational tasks across infrastructure and platform environments
- Collaborate with infrastructure and platform engineering teams to improve operational efficiency
Toil Reduction & Process Simplification - Identify manual, repetitive, and low-value work across engineering and operations
- Analyze workflows and determine whether they should be automated, simplified, or eliminated
- Replace manual processes with software, APIs, or automated workflows
- Drive measurable reductions in operational toil and process complexity
Operational Automation - Develop automated workflows for common operational tasks such as provisioning, configuration management, and environment setup
- Implement automation that improves incident response and operational reliability
- Identify opportunities to eliminate repetitive tasks and improve system operations
Observability & Reliability - Integrate automation with monitoring and observability systems such as Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry
- Use telemetry and operational data to identify opportunities for automation and reliability improvements
QualificationsBachelor's degree in management information systems (MIS), computer science, or related technical field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically four years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
A minimum of six years of experience in automation engineering, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or software engineering is required.
- Automation engineering, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or software engineering
- Strong programming skills in at least one language used for automation development (Go, Python, or Java)
- Experience working with Linux systems and distributed environments
Core Technical Experience Experience in several of the following areas:
- Infrastructure automation and operational tooling
- Infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
- CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows
- Automation of infrastructure or operational processes
- Cloud platforms or hybrid infrastructure environments
- Observability systems including Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry
- API-driven automation and system integrations
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Kubernetes platforms and container infrastructure
Experience implementing GitOps workflows
Experience building internal developer or operational tooling
Experience automating incident response or operational workflows
Experience contributing to open-source infrastructure or automation tools
