Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (Sr. SDET)

About the Role:

The Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (Sr. SDET) is responsible for designing and building robust automated testing solutions that ensure the quality, reliability, and scalability of software systems. This role applies advanced software engineering skills to quality challenges, embedding automation and testing throughout the development lifecycle. The Sr. SDET operates with a high degree of autonomy, owns test strategy for complex systems, and partners closely with software engineering, product, and platform teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks for UI, API, and backend services
  • Serve as the quality and automation owner for assigned products, platforms, or service domains
  • Write and maintain production-quality test code using modern programming languages and frameworks
  • Define and implement effective test strategies across functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing and rapid feedback
  • Perform advanced API, data-level, and contract testing to validate system integrations
  • Partner with software engineers and architects to improve system testability and design quality
  • Review requirements, designs, and code to identify quality risks early in the development process
  • Analyze test failures and defects, perform root-cause analysis, and drive preventative quality improvements
  • Support non-functional testing efforts, including performance, reliability, and scalability testing
  • Lead adoption of automation tools, testing standards, and best practices across teams
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to SDETs and Quality Engineers through code reviews and collaboration
  • Participate in production issue analysis to strengthen upstream testing and reduce defect leakage


Qualifications (some examples listed below):

  • Strong software development experience with deep focus on test automation
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Python, C#)
  • Extensive experience with test automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, REST-assured, Postman, similar)
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices architecture, and distributed systems
  • Experience building and maintaining automated tests within CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with cloud-based environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to influence engineering teams and advocate for quality without formal authority
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 6-9 years of experience in software testing, automation, or SDET roles
  • Proven experience owning and operating automated test solutions in production environments
  • Experience supporting complex, distributed, or customer-facing systems preferred

Compensation: The base pay range for this role is $119,200 - $149,000 annually

Pay within this range will be determined in good faith based on job-related factors, which may include skills, experience, education/training, location, and internal equity.
