DescriptionNorthrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Sr Principal Software Engineer – BM/SRM (26-325) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Huntsville, AL, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations globally and regionally to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.
The Regional Applications (RA) Battle Management/Sensor Resource Management (BM/SRM) team is seeking a senior software engineer to join the Huntsville development effort.
Essential Functions:
Working with minimal direction, the role requires deep technical expertise across multiple software disciplines and an understanding of systemwide implications and user needs
Ideal candidates have a proven track record of building and supporting high-performance applicationsand possess excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Experience with automated testing,software development,bestpractices, and a collaborative mindset is essential to success in this role
Willingness to accept unforeseen assignments
Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needs
Will also debug, configure, and maintain existing codebases and create automated tools to improve developer productivity and operational efficiency
Will design, develop, and maintain high-throughput, object-oriented applications utilizing commonOOPlanguages and Python
Conducts detailed analysis, design, coding, unit and integrationtesting, performance benchmarking, operational integration, and provides ongoing user support for complex software products
Basic Qualifications:
Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
A Bachelor9s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master9s degree in a related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or 12 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
Proficiency in Python and at least one additional object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java, C#, or C++)
Experience with Agile software development methodologies
Experience in software integration and formal testing
Strong background supporting software engineering on DoD programs
Experience in developing command and control (C2) system applications
Strong understanding ofsoftware development bestpractices and the ability to apply them in a multi-team environment
Excellent problem-solving skills with a proven track record of root-cause analysis and issue resolution
Proven ability to mentor and motivate junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes continuous learning and drives the team toward shared success
Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment
Experiencepresenting complex concepts to non-software-engineering audiences, including senior programleadership, government representatives, and military leaders
Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams
Strong knowledge of Atlassian tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) to support Agile software development teams

Primary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate9s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
