Full Job Description
Position Summary

The Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) business is seeking a Senior Metrology & Automation Engineer in the Manufacturing Technology group in Newark, Delaware. The recent surge in AI/ML and the growth of semiconductor fabs has tremendously boosted the demand for CMP products used in advanced node chips. The CMPT business in Qnity is uniquely positioned to capitalize on those opportunities. The Newark manufacturing facilities consist of polymer & non-woven felt manufacturing, casting, impregnation, coating, and numerous converting operations such as skiving, grooving, buffing, laminating and finishing.

This role provides technical expertise for the various metrology and automated equipment used to characterize CMP Polymeric and Poromeric Pads. These metrologies include chemical and mechanical properties such as hardness, compressibility, tensile strength, roughness, etc., and other material properties such as porosity, viscosity, molecular weight, light transmission measurements. Laser systems and microscopy methods are widely used in a variety of these metrologies.

The Sr. Metrology Engineer is recognized as a leader in the metrology and automation technologies and leads projects to upgrade current metrologies and develop new technologies. In addition to working with the Manufacturing Technology team, the person in this role also partners with global teams consisting of R&D, Manufacturing, Product Quality & Raw Materials engineers, as well as external vendors with the goal to innovate and advance our measurement and automated capabilities.

Responsibilities
• Lead multifunctional project teams in scouting, design, develop, and implement new and improved metrologies.
• Create strategy, design, and launch metrology and equipment automation efforts
• Lead new technology qualification and change management with customers
• Work with stakeholders to develop and manage project execution with well-defined milestones, timelines & resource need
• Interface with High Volume Manufacturing (HVM) teams to establish best practices in sustaining metrology stability, capability, parts and spares, and maintenance cadence
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause investigations for metrology and system issues

Required qualifications
• Bachelor, Master, or Ph.D. in Engineering, Polymer, Material Science, or relevant fields
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Metrology, Automation, and Manufacturing Technology
• Experience and prior responsibilities in project leadership

Preferred qualifications
• Demonstrated ability to design complex, integrated units that include fixturing and gantry systems that allow for high-precision measurements
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in measurement, inspection, automated systems, and process control systems
• Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to diagnose, troubleshoot, solve or help others solve equipment and process issues.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills; must work well in global, multifunctional teams.
• Six Sigma project leader certification and knowledge in SPC principles
• Experience in analytical labs for chemical, mechanical, dimensional and/or laser measurements
• Demonstrated skills in statistical software, such as JMP, Minitab

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
• Willingness to work with chemicals, polymers, and analytical/mechanical testing tools
• Ability to work throughout a manufacturing plant with varied temperatures and humidity
• Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Ability to work near moving mechanical parts, fume hoods, and loud equipment
• Commitment to safety and ability to work safely in laboratory and manufacturing environments.
