Purpose of Role

Under Armour is seeking a Material Development Senior Developer to help shape the future of performance materials through innovation, emerging technologies, and strategic supplier partnerships. This highly collaborative role offers the opportunity to influence products across the brand while developing and commercializing next-generation material solutions that enhance athlete performance and drive brand differentiation. The ideal candidate combines deep materials expertise with a passion for innovation, partnering with cross-functional teams and world-class suppliers to bring new technologies from concept to commercialization. Your Impact

  • Drive and lead material innovation visually and functionally, evolve material processes, and influence new end-use applications for all product categories
  • Lead in-season material development while advancing a pipeline of long-lead, highly engineered material innovations
  • Partner with Innovation teams to support and execute high-profile, cross-functional innovation projects
  • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages creativity, knowledge sharing, and innovative thinking.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Merchandising, Color, and Sourcing teams to deliver material solutions aligned with business and consumer needs
  • Deep understanding of how fibers, yarns, knit, and woven constructions, as well as dyeing and finishing affect a material's performance and aesthetic attributes
  • Explore emerging technologies, consumer insights, and adjacent industries to inspire future material innovations
  • Develop materials to defined specifications, ensuring performance, quality, and commercial viability.
  • Contribute to the development and adoption of tools, processes, and best practices that support innovative material creation
  • Maintain a strong understanding of material capabilities, market trends, and consumer influences across sport, fashion, and culture
  • Partner with global mills, suppliers, and industry networks to identify and develop next-generation material concepts
  • Collaborate with international Materials teams to support technical development and deliver global material specifications


Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge and proven experience working in technical textile development and the following principles:
  • Textile apparel materials science experience with familiarity and understanding of all phases of product ideation to commercialization
  • Natural and synthetic fiber and yarn performance attributes and manufacturing techniques
  • Understanding of apparel material construction and properties in knitting, weaving, and non-woven constructions
  • Understanding of apparel material dyeing and finishing processes
  • Knowledge of value-added chemistries (performance enhancement) and mechanical finishes for enhanced performance
  • End-use, product specific materials engineering
  • Understanding of ASTM, AATCC, ISO, and JIS apparel test standards
  • Understanding of the materials industry and vendors
  • Conceptual, technical, and strategic understanding of apparel materials
  • Aesthetic sense and creativity
  • Team player - each and every day motivating others and effectively collaborating in decision-making
  • Strong communication skills; being able to communicate with both global internal/external customers and suppliers
  • Ability to work independently without rigidity and constant oversight and collaboratively within the entire organization
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including meeting facilitation and presentations
  • Ability to network and influence internal and external resources
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience contributing sound judgment of policy and strategy.
  • BS in Apparel, Textiles, Materials Manufacturing, Design, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience

Base Compensation

$80,000.00-$110,000.00 USD

Most new hires fall within this range and have the opportunity to earn more over time. Initial placement within the salary range, however, is based on an individual's relevant knowledge, skills and experience for the position.
