Full Job Description
About the Job

SimpliSafe has quickly emerged as a leader in the home security space, thanks to our commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions. We're seeking individuals to join our growing team to help carry out our mission to make every customer feel safe and secure in their home.

We're investing in a multi-quarter Enterprise Data Platform program to move our data and analytics stack onto a modern lakehouse. We're looking for a Senior Manager, Data Platform Engineering to lead the team that builds, operates, and evolves that platform, and to make sure SimpliSafe owns and can run what we build. You'll manage the current platform, partner with vendors to implement the new one, and work with the Senior Manager, Data Engineering to plan the deprecation of legacy infrastructure. You'll stay close enough to the technical work to review designs, challenge estimates, and make the calls that matter, without being your team's sole architect.

Who You'll Work With

You'll report to the Senior Director, Data Platform, and lead a team of core platform and data integration engineers plus a Data Architect. You'll work closely with the Senior Manager, Data Engineering, whose team builds and operates the silver and gold pipelines that serve our Analytics and Data Science organizations. Your platform is the foundation they build on. You'll also partner with the Senior Program Manager, who owns the integrated roadmap and executive reporting, and with Security, Privacy, and Infrastructure, who retain enterprise policy and risk accountability.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and grow the team. Hire, coach, develop, and performance-manage platform, DevOps, and integration engineers plus the Data Architect, and manage capacity across build, migration, and legacy support.
  • Own the platform roadmap. Translate target architecture into sequenced capabilities, engineering standards, and team plans, balancing new capability against reliability, cost, and technical debt.
  • Own the core platform: environments, deployment patterns, orchestration, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation, delivered as self-service patterns and templates rather than a ticket queue.
  • Own ingestion and integration. Build reusable frameworks across batch, replication, CDC, and API, plus standards for source onboarding, schema change, data contracts, metadata, and lineage.
  • Own reliability and observability: incident response, recovery, on-call practices, monitoring, and alerting, extending coverage across data products with the Senior Manager, Data Engineering.
  • Own platform cost and performance. Drive compute and workload optimization and cost visibility, in partnership with Finance and Infrastructure.
  • Set architecture direction with the Data Architect on major decisions, standards, and exceptions without becoming an approval gate, and build security, privacy, access, and governance requirements into how the platform runs.
  • Own technical acceptance of implementation-partner work. Define acceptance criteria, review mechanisms, and knowledge transfer so our engineers can operate the platform before handoff.
  • Lead platform and ingestion migration off the legacy estate, supporting Data Engineering's workload and data-product cutover.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 8+ years in data platform, data engineering, or infrastructure engineering, including 5+ years managing engineering teams, with a track record of hiring senior and staff engineers and growing technical leadership beneath you.
  • Built and operated a modern cloud lakehouse in production (Databricks or comparable), including the environment, CI/CD, and access model, not only the workloads running on it.
  • Ran a platform migration while the legacy environment stayed in production: parallel operation, reconciliation, cutover, and decommissioning.
  • Led external delivery partners or vendor engineering teams. Defined technical acceptance criteria, held partners to them, and brought the capability in-house rather than leaving a dependency.
  • Built ingestion at scale (batch, replication, CDC, and API) on a reusable framework, with production pipeline reliability as your responsibility.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Databricks depth: Unity Catalog, Workflows/Jobs, Delta/DLT.
  • AWS data stacks (S3, Iceberg/Delta) and streaming (Kafka).
  • Owned platform cost and performance: accountable for a consumption or budget line, with specific optimizations you can point to.
  • Retired or replaced in-house platform component in favor of a supported alternative.
  • Consumer products, hardware, technology, or subscription businesses.

What Values You'll Share
  • Customer Obsessed - Building deep empathy for our customers, putting them at the core of our work, and developing strong, long-term relationships with them.
  • Aim High - Always challenging ourselves and others to raise the bar.
  • No Ego - Maintaining a "no job too small" attitude, and an open, inclusive and humble style.
  • One Team - Taking a highly collaborative approach to achieving success.
  • Lift As We Climb - Investing in developing others and helping others around us succeed.
  • Lean & Nimble - Working with agility and efficiency to experiment in an often ambiguous environment.

What We Offer
  • A mission- and values-driven culture and a safe, inclusive environment where you can build, grow and thrive
  • A comprehensive total rewards package that supports your wellness and provides security for SimpliSafers and their families (For more information on our total rewards please click here)
  • Free SimpliSafe system and professional monitoring for your home.
  • Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that bring people together, give opportunities to network, mentor and develop, and advocate for change.
