DescriptionJob SummaryThe Senior Manager, Audience Engagement leads ongoing efforts to establish and manage the online community and social media content strategy and presence across IEEE Conferences, Events & Experiences (CEE) programs and initiatives, including but not limited to, Awards, History & Heritage, and Events. The incumbent is responsible for developing a content vision and framework for platforms such as YouTube, LinkedIn, X, and others via owned and paid approaches.
A critical component of this role will be aligning with our Brand, Marketing & Communications (BMC) team to provide assets and access that may be of interest at the IEEE.org level. The incumbent ensures all digital channels are optimized to reflect the caliber of the IEEE brand through partnership with our BMC colleagues. This individual will provide senior management oversight to social media and other related digital presence processes, functions and projects, ensuring opportunities for efficiencies and ongoing improvement. This role requires coordination and collaboration across various stakeholders including IEEE Multimedia, event planners, conference organizers, IEEE BMC, and others to ensure cohesion and storytelling in alignment with the IEEE Strategic Goals.
The position reports to the Director, Event Innovation & Experiences, and may have direct reports upon further establishment of the role. The incumbent has assigned "customers" who lead various programs in CEE such as Awards, History, etc. and is expected to lead and strategize to convey a cohesive and compelling story.
Key Responsibilities- Social Media Management and Editorial Framework:
- Ensures a best-in-class presence for disseminating content & information including creating a vision and adjustable framework for a cross-channel editorial calendar
- Evaluates, recommends, and implements digital tools for content creation, platform management, and performance in partnership with BMC who own the IEEE social presence and brand
- Formulates goals, strategies, and KPIs for the social media sub brand presence through stakeholder collaboration
- Manages and utilizes website and social media analytics data to make informed decisions
- Manages digital assets, editorial strategy and calendars
- Manages development and documentation of asset governance to ensure brand quality and distinction across categories
- Facilitates efforts to increase content sharing and reuse throughout the IEEE including the creation and promotion of new tools and templates
- Serves as a liaison and primary point of contact within IEEE CEE for cross functional partners acting as a project manager and subject matter expert to evaluate, prioritize, develop, manage, and implement CEE digital initiatives
- Acts as lead reviewer and approver of content prior to posting
- Relationship Leadership:
- Manages and/or coordinates a diverse team that may include IEEE staff and external agencies to align on overall presence, roles & responsibilities, best practices, and social media management
- Works with SMEs to collect and communicate team activities and objectives to internal and external audiences; plan and manage efforts to maintain adequate visibility, understanding, focus and resource allocation for team efforts
- Works with stakeholders to clarify project requirements and expectations or to offer mediation, conflict resolution and escalation when necessary
- Facilitates and oversee vendor relations as needed to advance the goals of the team
- Assists with development, preparation, and facilitation of stakeholder/contributor training
Collaborates and contributes with external agencies including PR and production agencies to emphasize the needs, angles, and best practices from a social media perspective
- Additional Projects & Requests:
- May play a lead or supporting role on miscellaneous projects or requests that align with CEE content & communication
- Identifies and vets third party partners and platforms through RFPs, IT Security Review, and other methods
- Manages budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting for assigned activities and programs
- Reports on key wins or initiatives at an organizational level such as BoD Reports, Committee Reports, and IEEE-wide communications
Travel: - May include up to 10-15% international travel
QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferably in Marketing or Communications required
Work Experience- 7-10 years combined experience in social media, communications, marketing, strategy or related fields required.
- Five years of direct digital or project management experience required
- Demonstrated experience leading online and digital programs and properties required
- Demonstrated experience with social media, including value innovative work that shows leadership vs. following trends required
- Demonstrated experience managing and directing vendors, content development and management, user interface and user experience research, analytics and build required
- Demonstrated experience working in a diverse, global environment comprised of a multitude of stakeholders required
Skills and Requirements - Must be a technologically savvy knowledge worker who seeks out technology solutions to business challenges
- Ability to clearly translate creative requests and needs to graphic designers, video producers, and others
- Must have a creative mindset while keeping KPIs in mind
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Microsoft Office applications
- Proficiency with content management tools
- Thorough understanding of Web usability and accessibility standards and best practices
