Position SummaryAs part of a tight-knit team, the Senior Land Technician plays a critical role supporting land-related operations: researching the status of acreage in connection with lease offers and other proposed transactions, preparing lease agreements (including property description exhibits) for review by Land and/or Legal, drafting agreement summaries, and setting up various agreement types in the company's land management system. You'll also research and calculate royalty and working interest percentages tied to the company's property ownership, process lease bonus checks, and review monthly items to make informed recommendations. You'll also provide leadership to the broader Land Tech team, helping ensure projects are completed accurately and efficiently while maintaining clear communication with upper management.
In This Role, You Will- Work together with the area Landman to manage land functions for an assigned regional area
- Prepare forms and agreements, including property description exhibits, for leases and other agreements negotiated by the Landman
- Calculate and validate royalty and working interest percentages based on available information
- Support timely organization and setup of completed lease and contract files, and ensure proper routing in partnership with Land Administration and Land Records
- Review monthly Payment, Obligation, and Expiration calendars, and make initial recommendations based on available information
- Generate reports and maps, pull files, scan documents, and perform other tasks to support land management efforts in the assigned region
- Analyze and set up agreements as required in the company's land management system
- Identify innovative ways to improve current work practices, efficiency, and cross-team communication
- Work closely with Land Administration and other departments to improve communication across teams
- Actively coach and develop Land Techs; answering questions, supporting process improvements, sharing knowledge, and fostering open communication
- Serve as a key point of contact for resolving issues within the Land department, particularly within the Land Tech group
- Ensure company policies and procedures are understood and followed, while championing continuous improvement
- Partner with management and cross-functional teams to support auditing objectives and internal compliance standards
What We Require- 7-10 years of land technician experience
- Experience with Texas assets preferred
- Experience with a land management system (e.g., Quorum, iLandMan, Enertia, LandVantage/PakEnergy LandPro) strongly preferred
- Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated ability in problem-solving and attention to detail
- Proven ability to accurately calculate royalty and working interest percentages, and to read and interpret maps, graphs, and legal documents
- Precise computation skills and rapid problem-solving ability
- Proficiency in Excel, including advanced formulas, functions, and data analysis tools
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a small team environment as well as with external parties
- Ability to work independently and stay self-motivated
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
- Solid understanding of oil, gas, and mineral leasing, with the ability to review various types of title documents and agreements
