Why This Role Matters We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a PE license and deep mission critical expertise to join our growing team in a fully remote capacity, with preference for candidates based in Texas or Virginia. This role combines advanced technical design, project leadership, and client management across fast-paced, high-stakes data center and mission critical projects. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can drive full project lifecycles - concept through construction administration - while maintaining AHA's high standards for quality and client satisfaction.
Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Engineering & DesignLead mechanical/HVAC design for mission critical facilities, including data centers, colocation facilities, and other high-availability environments. Perform and review complex engineering calculations, system sizing, code analysis, and equipment selection. Develop mechanical plans, specifications, and technical reports. Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, IMC, IECC, Uptime Institute Tier standards, etc.). Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs; provide construction administration support.
Project ManagementServe as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, and contractors. Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and staffing from kickoff through closeout. Lead multidisciplinary coordination with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology teams. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance. Support proposal development, project planning, and workload forecasting
Quality & DeliveryConduct QA/QC reviews to ensure technical accuracy and consistency. Maintain strong communication and documentation throughout project execution. Drive efficiency and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
Requirements Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; MSME a plus
- PE license required
- Minimum 8 years of lead mechanical engineering experience in an MEP consulting environment
- Mission critical project experience required - data centers, or equivalent high-availability facilities
- Demonstrated experience managing projects of varying size and complexity
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, and other HVAC modeling tools
- Strong knowledge of building systems, codes, and multidisciplinary coordination
- Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills
Preferred Qualifications:- 12+ years of lead mechanical engineering experience in an MEP consulting environment
- Uptime Institute Tier certification knowledge or data center design standards experience
- Familiarity with sustainability frameworks (LEED, WELL, energy modeling)
- Experience mentoring engineers and supporting business development
