Position Summary
VRI and ISM are seeking a Director of Marketing to lead marketing, communications, brand development, and growth enablement across two growing organizations serving distinct but complementary markets.
The Director will serve as the primary marketing leader for VRI and ISM, establishing the strategy, operating cadence, brand standards, campaigns, content, events, and sales enablement necessary to support significant growth.
This is deliberately a player-coach position. The successful candidate must be capable of developing a marketing strategy at the leadership level while also being comfortable creating content, directing creative work, managing vendors, supporting events, developing presentations and collateral, and getting projects across the finish line.
The role will manage two distinct market identities:
VRI - a federal technical, engineering, program-management and national-security services organization supporting government missions, particularly DOE/NNSA and adjacent federal markets.
ISM - a growing managed IT and cybersecurity services company serving commercial, nonprofit, and other organizations through managed services, help desk, infrastructure, cybersecurity, compliance, and advisory services.
The objective is not to combine the brands, but to build a common marketing capability that can professionally support and accelerate both.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing Leadership & Strategy
Develop and own the annual marketing plans for VRI and ISM, including positioning, target audiences, campaign priorities, budgets, events, content calendars, digital strategy, and measurable growth objectives.
Translate each company's strategic growth plan into executable marketing programs and establish KPIs that connect marketing activity to pipeline, recruiting, customer acquisition, retention, and revenue.
Create enough common process and infrastructure to gain efficiencies across the companies while preserving distinct brands, audiences, and messaging.
VRI Marketing
Build VRI into a more visible and differentiated federal services brand.
Partner with executive leadership and business development to communicate VRI's capabilities across engineering, technical services, program management, analytics, national security, energy, and federal mission support.
Develop corporate capability materials, customer presentations, contract/vehicle communications, recruiting campaigns, case studies, proposal graphics, conference materials, thought leadership, and digital content.
Support VRI's geographic and organizational expansion, including growth in New Mexico and the DOE/NNSA ecosystem.
Work with business development and recruiting to position VRI as both a trusted federal mission partner and an attractive destination for high-quality technical talent.
ISM Marketing & Growth
Build a repeatable marketing engine supporting ISM's expansion as a regional managed IT, cybersecurity, and advisory services provider.
Develop campaigns around managed IT, help desk, cybersecurity, compliance, vCISO and related recurring services.
Support customer acquisition through digital campaigns, referral programs, events, partnerships, community engagement, sales collateral, customer stories, and targeted outbound campaigns.
Build scalable marketing programs that can support ISM's expansion into additional markets and integration of future MSP acquisitions.
Develop messaging and campaigns appropriate for SMB and middle-market customers that make complex technology and cybersecurity concepts understandable and commercially relevant.
Brand & Creative Direction
Own brand standards and creative direction across VRI and ISM.
Direct development of websites, presentations, proposals, social media, digital campaigns, brochures, signage, photography/video, recruiting collateral, advertisements, and event materials.
The candidate should be comfortable operating hands-on when appropriate. This is particularly aligned with Carrie's background: her experience includes graphic design, photography/video, print, web, public relations, advertising, social media and trade shows. Profile-34
Content & Corporate Communications
Develop and maintain an integrated communications calendar for both companies.
Create executive communications, press releases, announcements, social content, customer communications, thought leadership, employee communications and community messaging.
Develop stronger executive visibility for company leadership through LinkedIn, industry publications, speaking opportunities, conferences, community organizations, and other channels.
Ensure that all communications are professionally written, visually consistent, and aligned with the appropriate company's market position.
Sales & Business Development Enablement
Partner directly with VRI and ISM sales/business-development leaders to create materials that help generate and close business.
Develop presentations, capability statements, campaign materials, account-specific collateral, email campaigns, event follow-up, customer stories, competitive positioning and other sales tools.
Establish a process for marketing to support opportunities rather than functioning solely as a creative-services department.
Experience training sales representatives, creating presentations and translating customer needs into solutions is particularly relevant here.
Events & Community Presence
Develop an annual event strategy for each organization.
Lead or coordinate trade shows, conferences, customer events, recruiting events, community programs, webinars and executive engagements.
Establish pre-event targeting and post-event follow-up processes so events contribute measurable value rather than simply brand exposure.
Marketing Operations & Measurement
Establish a common marketing operating system across VRI and ISM, including calendars, project management, campaign tracking, CRM coordination, asset management and reporting.
Track metrics including marketing-generated opportunities, pipeline influence, web traffic, lead conversion, campaign performance, event ROI, social engagement, recruiting engagement and customer acquisition.
Present a concise monthly marketing dashboard to executive leadership.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of progressive marketing, communications, brand, creative or related experience, with demonstrated experience managing multiple brands, business units or customer segments.
Strong writing, editing, storytelling and presentation skills are required, along with demonstrated creative judgment and experience developing both digital and traditional marketing assets.
Experience working directly with executive leadership, sales/business-development teams and external vendors is important. Experience with government contracting, managed services, cybersecurity, professional services or B2B/G technology would be advantageous but is not required.
A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, graphic design, business or a related discipline is preferred.
