Full Job Description
Join a team that is shaping the future of grocery retail for Amazon. As a Senior Construction Project Manager on the Worldwide Grocery Stores (WWGS), Enterprise Team, you will independently own and deliver large-scale, high-complexity major remodel projects across multiple regions nationally. You will serve as the single-threaded leader responsible for driving quality, schedule, and budget outcomes from preconstruction through closeout.

This role operates at the intersection of technical construction expertise and live retail operations. You will navigate the unique challenges of remodeling within operating store environments, including coordination of refrigeration systems, food safety protocols, and specialty grocery infrastructure, all while maintaining an exceptional customer and team member experience.

This is a remote by design position requiring 75%-80% travel.

Key job responsibilities

- End-to-End Project Delivery: Deliver enterprise-scale minor and major remodels on time and on budget within operating store environments across multiple regions.

- Autonomous Execution: Independently manage scope, schedule, and budget for complex, high-dollar programs with minimal oversight.

- National Consistency: Apply enterprise standards across dispersed projects while adapting to local jurisdictional requirements.

- Cross-Functional Coordination: Serve as central point of project accountability across Design, Operations, Equipment, Refrigeration, and Commissioning.

- Quality Assurance: Monitor MEP systems, refrigeration infrastructure, and construction standards ensuring craftsmanship, operational efficiencies, and maximized product capacity.

- Stakeholder Management: Influence and negotiate with internal partners, general contractors, landlord/developer representatives, and municipal authorities.

- Value Engineering: Optimize project costs while maintaining quality and brand standards.

- Operational Coordination: Ensure phased construction sequencing minimizes disruption to active store operations, customers, and team members.

- Contract Management: Manage change orders, contract compliance, and RFI accountability.

- Contractor Accountability: Manage lead times for permitting, OFI equipment, refrigeration systems, and jurisdictional inspections.

- Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with life safety, OSHA, and food safety requirements at active store job sites.

- Mentorship: Provide technical mentorship; foster accountability and shared fate.

- Process Improvement: Contribute to continual improvement of Construction SOPs and bidding procedures.

- This is a remote by design position requiring access to a major international airport with a travel requirement of 75-80% based on project workload

A day in the life

- Reviewing and updating project schedules, milestones, and capital/operational budgets.

- Conducting progress meetings with designers, architects, engineers, GCs, subcontractors, equipment buyers, facilities, merchants, and operations.

- Coordinating with landlord/developer representatives and municipal authorities on deliverables and compliance.

- Evaluating site feasibility, phasing plans, and field progress considering food safety and operational needs.

- Overseeing refrigeration system installations, commissioning, and store integration.

- Managing RFIs, change orders, contract compliance, permitting, and pay applications.

- Conducting site walks to verify quality, safety, scope, and schedule adherence.

- Reporting to leadership weekly on status and daily on critical issues.

- Identifying and mitigating project risks.

- Mentoring and sharing best practices.

About the team

The Enterprise Construction Project Management team sits within Worldwide Retail Development Group. We are responsible for delivering major remodel programs that transform existing stores into next-generation retail environments while the stores remain open and operational.

Our team operates nationally, managing a portfolio of high-complexity remodels across 600+ locations. We partner closely with Design, IT, Property Management, Program Management, Operations, Equipment, Refrigeration, Commissioning, Facilities, and Finance teams to deliver projects that improve the customer and Team Member experience while optimizing capital investment. Our projects span the full complexity of grocery infrastructure, from refrigeration systems and food service equipment to specialty fixtures and store technology.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in financial/business analysis

- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region

- Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of Construction Project Management experience.

- 3+ years using construction and project management tools (e.g., Procore, Smartsheet, Bluebeam, MS Project).

- Experience executing major remodels within active grocery/retail store environments, including phased construction in operating locations.

- Experience in construction management, including budget development, schedule management, and cost controls.

- Experience with landlord scope of work and commercial contracts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Master's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Structural, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

- Experience working independently with minimal supervision, or experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities

- Experience with analytical tools and ability to dive deep into metrics and reporting

- Experience communicating and presenting to senior leadership

- project management certification such as PMP, Scrum, or other Agile certification

- Advanced understanding of retail grocery fixtures, refrigeration systems, food service equipment, and infrastructure complexities

- Experience managing enterprise-scale projects across multiple regions simultaneously

- Knowledge of food safety requirements and protocols as they relate to construction within operating grocery environments

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
