Full Job Description
Fishbeck is seeking a Senior Construction Engineer to join our team in Grand Rapids, MI. This role involves leading construction administration and oversight for projects of varying size and complexity on behalf of our clients.

We're looking for a self-motivated professional with a commitment to high-quality work, strong planning and communication skills, and experience collaborating with state and local government agencies as well as the public. The ideal candidate will also provide leadership and guidance to staff in a team-oriented environment. Willingness to travel and work outdoors is required.

Primary Functions
  • Oversee the administration and coordination of multiple highway and bridge rehabilitation and reconstruction projects.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with contract documents and project specifications.
  • Plan and lead project meetings, including pre-construction, progress, HMA/concrete pre-production, and public meetings. Prepare and distribute meeting minutes.
  • Supervise engineers and technicians in inspection, administration, and documentation from pre-bid to contract close-out.
  • Manage project pay estimates, contract modifications, work orders, and supporting documentation.
  • Review and validate work produced by the project oversight team in the field and office.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex assignments and mentor junior staff.
  • Interpret and apply contract documents to address unforeseen project challenges.
  • Monitor staff performance to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, local agencies, and the general public.
  • Advise clients on project status, issues, and solutions.
  • Review and respond to contractor correspondence and claims.
  • Track and manage project budgets, ensuring timely communication of any financial concerns.
  • Contribute to business development efforts and support company growth initiatives.
  • Manage internal project budgets for services contracts.


Minimum Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, sit, and maneuver around uneven terrain at project sites.
  • Ability to drive to and from work sites.
  • Ability to read printed materials and computer screens; hearing and speech abilities to communicate effectively.

  • Strong knowledge of transportation engineering from design through final construction.
  • Proven project management skills, with experience handling projects from local streets to complex urban freeways and structures.
