Position Summary

The Senior Accountant - SEC & Financial Reporting will work closely with the AVP/Senior Accounting Manager and the VP/Assistant Controller in maintaining accurate, reliable and timely financial reporting. This Senior Accountant role assists in maintaining the integrity of the Bank's reporting requirements consistent with guidance administered by the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), and the FHLBanks' Office of Finance (OF).

This role will have a hybrid work schedule in our Boston office in accordance with the Bank's Hybrid Work Program. More time will be expected in the office to support onboarding initially.

Anticipated Pay Range

The anticipated base pay range for this role is $80,500 - $132,250

This role is based in Boston with weekly in-office expectations. The base pay posted represents the annual base pay range or hourly wage range that we expect to offer for this job opportunity. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including relevant experience, required skills and other relevant factors. The range noted here is not indicative of all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements and footnotes in accordance with GAAP as assigned by management.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Bank's earnings release.
  • Prepare the monthly Cash Flow Statement, including compilation of all supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate the review process of draft SEC filings throughout the organization, including review from the Legal team.
  • Maintain the policies and procedures manual, desk manuals, and documentation for the reporting function.
  • Manage the comments and edits from internal and external reviewers of the Bank's SEC filings and ensure all questions/comments are properly addressed.
  • Assist in the coordination of the review/audit of the Bank's quarterly and annual financial statements by the external auditors.
  • On an on-going basis, evaluate other financial services companies' quarterly and annual financial statements and disclosures for best practices and emerging disclosure trends, and identify potential improvements for our SEC filings.
  • Ensure all internal controls and procedures are adhered to as well as make recommendations for improvement.
  • Assist in the preparation and uploading of monthly and quarterly financial disclosures and supplemental templates for the Office of Finance as part of the combined financial reports for the FHLBank System.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the monthly and quarterly call reports provided to the FHFA. Coordinate changes to Call Report requirements with internal stakeholders who are impacted by these changes. Periodically reconfirm consistency of our Call Report submissions with the other FHLBanks' Call Report submissions.
  • Provide back-up support for the Bank's XBRL function, the semi-weekly debt issuance 8-K filings, and other 8-K filings, as needed.
  • Manage and support appropriate use of AI in the financial reporting process.
  • Participate in the FHLBank Combined Financial Report review process and other relevant subcommittees
  • Coordinate process improvements and support implementation related to the financial reporting function
  • Assist in any special projects that may arise from time to time, including but not limited to, researching various SEC and GAAP accounting issues.
  • Perform other functions within the Accounting Control department, as needed.


Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills
• Strong hands-on data management and technology skills with the ability to maximize digital capabilities to support accuracy and operational efficiency, including proficiency with spreadsheet applications and database access tools. Workday Finance and Workiva are important technologies for the stated job responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, as well as SEC reporting requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to work well independently.
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously, with good time management skills.

Education
• Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting is expected for this role.
• CPA designation is strongly preferred.

Experience
• 2-3 years public accounting experience or 4-6 years corporate accounting experience with a good understanding of SEC Rules and Regulations and financial statement preparation.
