Job Description

The Senior Accountant that focuses on fixed assets provides support by maintaining accurate, consistent, complete and timely data relating to the firm’s fixed assets in both the General Ledger and the Fixed Asset system. This position is also responsible for property tax returns and compliance, along with any other Fixed Asset related needs or requests.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Record fixed assets by following a system of procedures, forms, and controls

  • Recommend any updates to accounting policies affecting fixed assets to management

  • Record in the accounting system newly acquired fixed assets, transfers and those disposals

  • Track, compile, and record project costs in fixed asset accounts; close out the accounts at the completion of the projects by moving from Construction in Progress in a timely manner

  • Perform reconciliation of fixed asset subsidiary ledger balance to the general ledger

  • Perform depreciation/amortization calculation for all fixed assets in Sage FAS system

  • Perform revision and update on the detailed schedule (Roll Forward Schedule) of accumulated depreciation and fixed assets

  • Review fixed assets for obsolescence potential; recommending fixed assets that should be disposed of to management

  • Perform fixed asset related analyses as requested by management

  • Create fixed asset related audit schedules, and collaborate with Senior Lead Accountant on audit needs

  • Perform property tax returns filings in a timely manner

  • Serve as Firm representative for audits relating to fixed assets facilitated by a government agency

  • Review, research, and evaluate complex fixed asset issues and initiate changes or corrections as needed; ensuring the timely reporting, reconciliation and discrepancy resolution of all monthly financial information

REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in accounting or related experience

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • 5+ years accounting experience in a general ledger systems environment, preferably with a large legal or professional services environment

  • Strong knowledge of Fixed Assets and General Ledger; experience with Aderant Expert and/or Sage FAS a plus

  • Strong analytical skills and math skills

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently, with individuals at all levels of the organization and work well as part of a team

  • Excellent time management skills to meet time-sensitive deadlines

  • Ability to work on multiple projects with attention to detail and meet regular deadlines

  • Must have strong experience and skills with Microsoft Excel and Word

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 - $85,000.  Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skill set, and geographic location
