Job Summary
Client is seeking a SQL/Cloud Database Administrator to administer, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server and cloud database environments. The role involves database installation, upgrades, patching, migration, performance tuning, high availability, and operational support across enterprise database systems. The selected candidate will monitor database availability, resolve application and database issues, improve existing database processes, and support cloud database technologies and migration initiatives. Additional help desk and application support responsibilities will be shared through a team rotation.
Key Responsibilities
• Administer, monitor, and support SQL Server and cloud databases to maintain database uptime, availability, security, and reliability.
• Troubleshoot application and database issues involving connectivity, access, permissions, security, and performance.
• Analyze and optimize long-running SQL queries and tune database performance.
• Install, upgrade, patch, configure, and migrate SQL Server databases, including SQL Server 2019 and later versions.
• Implement and support SQL Server high availability and failover solutions, including clustering, mirroring, and Always On where applicable.
• Perform SQL Server installations and configuration for failover clustering environments.
• Support large SQL Server databases and complex enterprise database environments.
• Develop, maintain, and optimize Transact-SQL (T-SQL) queries, scripts, and database procedures.
• Review existing database implementations and recommend, implement, or direct changes to improve performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Review and refine database tasks and processes to align with organizational priorities.
• Use operating system scripting utilities to support database maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and operational support.
• Support cloud database platforms and contribute to cloud migration initiatives.
• Apply data modeling principles and support data warehousing, ETL, and data transformation requirements.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to resolve technical issues and maintain database services.
• Participate in the team's help desk and application support rotation.
• Communicate technical findings, requirements, design decisions, and recommendations clearly in written and verbal formats.
Required Qualifications
• At least two years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server databases.
• Strong SQL Server DBA experience, including database administration, troubleshooting, upgrades, patching, migrations, and operational support.
• Hands-on experience with T-SQL development, query optimization, performance tuning, and resolving complex database issues.
• Experience with SQL Server high availability technologies, including clustering, mirroring, failover clustering, and Always On.
• Experience supporting large databases and Windows-based database environments.
• At least one year of experience with Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks; a relevant certification may be accepted in lieu of experience.
• Knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, data transformations, and the differences between online transaction processing (OLTP) and data warehouse environments.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent skills, knowledge, and work experience.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using standard requirements and design artifacts.
• Ability to work independently on complex tasks, exercise sound judgment, and collaborate effectively with engineering and operations teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with SQL Server 2019, 2022, or later versions.
• Experience with Azure SQL, Snowflake, Databricks, managed SQL platforms, or other cloud database technologies.
• Familiarity with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
• Experience supporting cloud database migrations and modernizing enterprise database environments.
