The Specialty Educator is a registered professional nurse who demonstrates specialty expertise in clinical nursing and a passion for ongoing support and development for clinical associates. The Specialty Educator assumes accountability and responsibility for provision of professional development to positively influence the quality and cost effectiveness of patient care in the area of their specialty.

Responsible for developing, implemen:ting, and evaluating a program of education for their specialty (med surg). Programming includes coordination of orientation with facility departments in specialty area, ongoing staff competency as well as continued education at the unit and/or facility level as identified by needs assessments, audits, data informed decision making and regulatory requirement initiatives. Applies policies, procedures, standards, and regulations as appropriate to their populations. The scope of the education will be determined through collaborative practice with Clinical Specialists, Facility-based educators, and providers to enhance the quality and cost effectiveness of patient care. Works closely with the Clinical Specialist to align with annual specialty education initiatives, specialty orientation and other region initiatives. May be required to deploy to sites based on initiatives or programs as needed.

This position reports centrally at the region level.

Job Requirements

In addition to bringing humankindness to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:

  • Three years of experience in nursing is required
  • Two years of experience in the designated specialty (med surg) is required
  • A degree in nursing (BSN or MSN), required
  • Masters Degree preferred
  • Current RN License to practice in state of employment as applicable, required
  • Nursing Specialty Certification required: Sit within 6 months; achieve within 1year of hire or transfer to the role.
