The Opportunity:Reporting to the Scheduling Manager, the Scheduling Specialist is responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable execution of crude, refined products, LPG, and intermediates movements across North America. Working closely with Commercial, Operations, Risk, Credit, Accounting, and external counterparties, this role manages transportation, inventory, and logistics activities while providing recommendations to optimize asset utilization, manage risk, and support commercial objectives
Key Responsibilities: - Manage the end-to-end scheduling and execution of commodity movements via pipeline, rail, truck, terminal, and storage assets.
- Partner with traders to manage contracts, monitor physical positions, forecast transportation capacity, and optimize logistics economics.
- Submit and manage nominations, shipment notices, inventory movements, and related documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
- Monitor inventory balances, transportation performance, and deal execution, ensuring discrepancies are investigated and resolved promptly.
- Assess and communicate the impact of apportionment, force majeure events, outages, and transportation constraints, recommending solutions to minimize commercial impacts.
- Work closely with Commercial, Risk, Credit, Accounting, Tax, and Customs teams to ensure accurate and compliant transaction execution.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, terminal operators, pipeline companies, and other key stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve logistics efficiency, asset utilization, and operational processes.
- Support month-end activities including reconciliations, inventory balancing, and transaction verification.
- Serve as a scheduling subject matter expert and provide guidance and knowledge-sharing across the team.
Qualifications and Skills: - Post-secondary degree in Business, Economics, Logistics or a related field
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in scheduling, logistics, transportation, supply chain, or commodity marketing within the energy industry.
- Experience supporting crude oil, refined products, LPG, or related commodity markets.
- Working knowledge of North American pipeline and terminal networks.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex logistics operations involving multiple transportation modes and external counterparties.
- Experience working closely with commercial teams to support trading and marketing activities.
- Strong understanding of pipeline operations, transportation logistics, storage assets, inventory management, and commodity movement processes.
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of the financial implications of operational decisions.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ETRM systems, and transportation management tools.
- Ability to interpret and analyze large data sets and transform information into actionable recommendations.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet critical deadlines.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), WHMIS, CCLP, or other logistics-related certifications is considered an asset.
- Experience with rail logistics, fleet management, railcar operations, or GeoMetrix tracking software is considered an asset.
