Spacecraft Thermal Design and Analysis Engineer IIIRemote
Job SummaryAurex is seeking a mid-level Spacecraft Thermal Design and Analysis Engineer at the Systems Engineer Level 2 or 3 to support the development of spacecraft thermal management and passive insulation systems.
This role will use in-depth CREO CAD knowledge and demonstrated CREO/Ansys Simulation experience to develop integrated thermal analyses and translate results into practical engineering designs. Responsibilities include designing, modeling, and documenting multilayer insulation (MLI), cryogenic multilayer insulation (cryo-MLI), and spray-on foam insulation.
The ideal candidate combines thermal analysis experience with strong mechanical design skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines. This position is fully remote and requires no travel.
Key Responsibilities- Design, model, and document passive thermal insulation systems, including MLI, cryo-MLI, and spray-on foam insulation.
- Develop and maintain detailed CREO CAD models to support thermal analysis, design development, and system integration.
- Perform integrated thermal analyses using CREO and Ansys Simulation to evaluate thermal performance and inform design decisions.
- Define and document analysis assumptions, material properties, boundary conditions, and results.
- Collaborate with systems, mechanical, and other engineering teams to address thermal requirements, interfaces, and design constraints.
- Prepare engineering drawings, analysis reports, and supporting design documentation.
- Participate in design reviews, communicate technical findings, and support design revisions throughout development.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering field and 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- In-depth knowledge of CREO CAD, including developing and maintaining component and assembly models.
- Demonstrated experience using CREO and Ansys Simulation for integrated thermal analysis.
- Working knowledge of heat transfer fundamentals, including conduction, convection, and radiation, and their application to engineering design and analysis.
- Experience translating analysis results into design recommendations and documenting the supporting technical rationale.
- Ability to prepare clear engineering documentation and communicate design and analysis findings.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with an emphasis on heat transfer, thermal sciences, or spacecraft thermal design.
- Experience supporting aerospace systems, particularly NASA, commercial space, Department of War (DOW) space, or other space and launch vehicle customers.
- Experience designing, modeling, or analyzing MLI, cryo-MLI, and spray-on foam insulation systems.
- Familiarity with spacecraft thermal environments, vacuum heat transfer, radiation exchange, and cryogenic applications.
- Experience comparing thermal analysis predictions with test data and refining models based on results.
- Experience with Windchill for engineering data management, configuration control, and design documentation.
- Experience supporting aerospace design reviews and coordinating thermal design requirements across engineering disciplines.
