ABOUT THE ROLE:Skylo is building a developer and device ecosystem that makes NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) connectivity practical to adopt. We are hiring a hands-on Senior IoT Solutions Engineer to drive chipset and module enablement, firmware support, reference designs, and first-run developer journeys into a reliable product capability. You will guide external developers from unboxing to a validated NB-IoT NTN attach and data session without continuous engineering assistance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Full-stack device & application enablement
- Own chipset and module bring-up on the Skylo network: attach, provisioning, firmware validation, AT command behaviour, certification support (GCF/PTCRB where relevant).
- Drive reference designs and integration guides for OEMs across IoT, automotive, and enterprise.
- Optimise application behaviour for the constraints of NB-NTN: link budget, latency, duty cycle, and power (PSM / eDRX / RAI).
- Define the reference architectures, debug tooling, integration guides, and support playbooks the vertical runs on - hands-on, not by delegation.
- Set the technical interfaces with Network Engineering, Product, and Carrier Partnerships.
RAN & NTN behaviour
- Be the deep expert on NB-NTN radio behavior - link budget, Doppler compensation, timing advance, satellite pass/visibility windows, and store-and-forward vs. real-time modes.
- Own TN ↔ NTN switching: PLMN/network selection logic, RRC state behavior, mobility between terrestrial and non-terrestrial coverage, and the device-side configuration that makes switching reliable in the field.
Application layer, cloud & connectivity
- Guide customers on NIDD (Non-IP Data Delivery) via NEF/SCEF over T6a, and on CoAP, LwM2M, MQTT/MQTT-SN, and payload optimisation for constrained links.
- Design and validate end-to-end data flows from device firmware through the core to the customer cloud (e.g. AWS IoT, Azure IoT).
- Own the IP networking path to the customer: APN design, IP addressing, DNS, routing, firewall/NAT behavior, and secure interconnect (IPsec/VPN tunnels, private/dedicated connectivity) - including how data egresses the core over the roaming/IPX path where relevant.
- Build and expose APIs - REST/webhook integrations, NEF/SCEF exposure APIs, and network-exposure interfaces (e.g. CAMARA-style) - so customers can provision, manage, and consume data programmatically.
Customer & partner support
- Serve as the top-tier technical escalation point for module vendors, OEMs, and enterprise customers.
- Reproduce, root-cause, and resolve field issues spanning device, RAN, core, and application layers.
- Developer Enablement: Build and maintain high-quality reference implementations, quick-start guides, sample code, and technical integration patterns.
- Workflow Optimization: Architect the self-service OEM and developer trial journey, systematically eliminating friction from documentation and product workflows.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:- 5+ years of experience in IoT solutions engineering, embedded systems, field applications engineering, or a highly technical customer-facing engineering role.
- Strong hands-on C/C++ embedded development skills, RTOS experience, module bring-up, and cellular AT-command interfaces.
- Solid cellular IoT knowledge, including network registration, attach sequences, SIM/eSIM profiles, PLMN selection, and packet data.
- Strong command of NB-IoT and NB-NTN - 3GPP Rel-17 NTN concepts, RRC, NAS, PSM/eDRX, RAI, and the radio realities of a satellite link.
- Hands-on with chipsets and modules - e.g. Qualcomm 9205S/212S, Sony Altair, Sequans, MediaTek at the silicon level; Quectel, u-blox, Murata, Fibocom, Telit at the module level.
- Practical RAN understanding - link budgets, RF debug, coverage and interference reasoning, not just theory.
- Modem log and packet-level debug - QXDM/QCAT or equivalent, AT command mastery, PCAP analysis.
- Fluency in TN↔NTN switching / network selection behavior on real devices.
- Application-layer + full-stack ability - CoAP/LwM2M/MQTT-SN, NIDD, embedded C, Python, and cloud/API integration.
- Cloud - hands-on with at least one major IoT cloud stack (AWS IoT / Azure IoT), device-to-cloud data pipelines, and identity/security for connected devices.
- IP networking - solid grasp of APN, IP addressing, DNS, routing, NAT/firewall, and secure interconnect (IPsec/VPN, private connectivity); GTP / GRX/IPX awareness a plus.
- APIs - designing and consuming REST APIs and webhooks; familiarity with network-exposure APIs (NEF/SCEF, CAMARA) is strongly desirable
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- NB-IoT NTN, satellite IoT, 3GPP standards, or roaming experience.
- Practical familiarity with Wireshark, signaling analytics, BigQuery, or developer portals.
- A proven track record of creating developer documentation that materially reduces incoming support tickets.
