Position Overview
As a Solution Design & Data Insights Associate at NewCold, you will lead the end-to-end solution design lifecycle
for new automated cold storage warehouses by translating complex customer data into optimized warehouse
designs. Your role is pivotal in enabling data-driven decisions that support scalable, efficient, and innovative cold
chain logistics solutions, ensuring alignment with NewCold's operational and business objectives.
You will directly impact NewCold's automated warehouse operations by owning capacity modeling, data pipelines,
and solution documentation throughout the warehouse development lifecycle. Collaborating closely with Business
Development, Engineering, and Operations teams, you will ensure that data insights translate into actionable
design recommendations, supporting the delivery of cutting-edge, automated cold storage facilities that meet
customer needs and drive commercial success.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Lead capacity modeling and conceptual warehouse layouts using customer and market data to define
warehouse size, dock numbers, storage locations, and operational parameters.
• Manage assumptions, constraints, and risk factors throughout the solution design process to ensure
robust and scalable warehouse designs.
• Develop and maintain repeatable data ingestion, cleaning, and modeling pipelines using Power BI, Excel,
and SQL to support decision-making and reporting.
• Build, run and troubleshoot ETL pipelines, mappings and load order, and fixes failures without escalation.
• Keep scripts, mappings and files structured and versioned so partnering team members can reproduce the
work.
• Create clear, executive-ready solution narratives, presentations, and dashboards that communicate
design rationale and data-driven recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Business Development, Engineering, Warehouse Management
Systems, Implementation, and Operations teams to validate assumptions and ensure smooth handoffs
during warehouse design and development.
• Facilitate and present in customer and internal workshops, capturing decisions and driving follow-up
actions to closure.
• Maintain a structured repository of datasets, queries, and version-controlled models to ensure data
auditability and transparency.
• Continuously improve data models and insights to enhance warehouse operational performance and
support budgeting and commercial proposal processes.
• Support travel up to 50% for customer workshops and site collaboration to align design solutions with
operational realities.
• Contribute to strategic projects such as developing budgeting tools and transport analysis models that
enhance NewCold's competitive positioning.
Requirements
• 5+ years of hands-on analysis work where the candidate owned the outcome, not only the data
preparation.
• Ability to write production-quality SQL independently (CTEs, joins, aggregations, data-type conversion)
and can explain a fact and dimension model.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, strong hands-on experience with SQL and Power BI including data
modeling and DAX for building decision-ready dashboards.
• Has built and maintained ETL pipelines that move data from source systems into a data model, for
example with Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Informatica, Talend, dbt or Python. Can handle mappings, load
order, data quality checks and failures.
• Experience building Power BI models and reports, including DAX measures, and reconciles results against
the source.
• Has presented analysis results to non-technical stakeholders such as operations managers, sales or
customers, and can show an example.
• Experience turning an unclear question and messy data into a structured approach, asks the right
questions and states assumptions.
• Preferred experience in supply chain, logistics, warehousing, distribution or 3PL. Understands orders,
order lines, SKUs, pallets, cases, inbound and outbound flows, throughput and capacity.
• Preferred experience with Azure Data Factory.
• Preferred experience in warehouse design, slotting, automation or cold chain experience.
• Preferred experience with customer-facing analysis, for example in consulting, a 3PL or a
solutions or engineering team.
• Preferred experience using Python for data work.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% to support customer engagements and site collaboration.
Education/Certification
• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
• Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Data Science,
Business Analytics, Information Systems or a comparable quantitative field required.
