Job Description (General Summary)
This role will drive a next-generation industrial IoT and edge computing platform to power intelligent material handling systems operating in demanding, real-time environments. This platform will span ARM and x86 architectures, integrate containerized applications via Docker, and support a real-time operating system (RTOS) to enable deterministic control alongside higher-level analytics and orchestration.
We are seeking a Solution Architect to define and own the system architecture end-to-end-bridging embedded systems, real-time control, cloud-connected edge platforms, and modern DevOps practices. This role will be instrumental in shaping the technology foundation for future products and scaling the platform across multiple industrial applications.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Responsibilities:
System & Platform Architecture
• Architect a heterogeneous edge platform supporting both ARM and x86 compute targets.
• Define system-level designs that integrate:
o RTOS-based deterministic control
o Embedded Linux and containerized workloads
o Secure connectivity to enterprise and cloud systems
o Integrate parametric AI workflows for local and remote data disposition
• Establish architectural principles for scalability, fault tolerance, and industrial lifecycle support.
Real-Time & Embedded Integration
• Design hybrid architectures where RTOS-based control loops coexist with Linux-based edge services.
• Define inter-process and inter-OS communication strategies (shared memory, IPC, DDS, gRPC, etc.).
• Ensure deterministic timing, safety, and performance constraints are met under all operating conditions.
Containerization & Deployment
• Lead the architectural approach for Docker-based application deployment at the edge.
• Define container orchestration strategies appropriate for resource-constrained, industrial environments.
• Partner with DevOps and firmware teams to shape CI/CD pipelines for embedded and edge systems.
Security, Reliability & Compliance
• Architect secure boot, device identity, and software update strategies.
• Define approaches for OTA updates across RTOS, firmware, and containerized applications.
• Incorporate cybersecurity best practices and industrial compliance standards from day one. Familiarity with IEC 62443 preferred.
Cross-Functional Leadership
• Serve as the technical authority across engineering, product management, and operations.
• Translate product requirements into platform capabilities and technical roadmaps.
• Mentor engineers and influence architectural decisions without direct authority.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related field.
• 5+ years of experience in systems architecture, embedded platforms, or edge computing.
• Strong hands-on experience with ARM and x86 architectures.
• Proven expertise in at least one RTOS (e.g., QNX, VxWorks, FreeRTOS, Zephyr, RTLinux).
• Deep understanding of Linux-based embedded systems.
• Experience designing and deploying Docker/containerized applications on edge devices.
• Strong grasp of networking, protocols, and industrial communication patterns.
• Ability to operate at both high-level architecture and low-level technical detail.
• Ability to travel up to 25%
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree
• Experience in industrial automation, robotics, material handling, or controls systems.
• Familiarity with functional safety concepts (ISO 13849, IEC 61508, etc.).
• Experience with edge orchestration, fleet management, or IoT platforms.
• Strong documentation skills, including architecture diagrams and design specifications.
• Prior experience acting as a technical lead or principal architect.

The position is eligible for one of the following: commissions, discretionary incentives, or production incentives according to the terms of those plans
Salary Range $73,000 to $192,200
