Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly technical Software Engineering Manager to lead the engineering vision, development, integration, and support of our Legal Technology ecosystem.
This role is ideal for a hands-on engineering leader who enjoys building software, solving complex integration challenges, and applying Generative AI to transform legal operations. Unlike traditional management positions, approximately 80% of this role is dedicated to software development, solution architecture, production support, and technical leadership, with the remaining 20% focused on coaching engineers, resource planning, and stakeholder management.
The Managing Engineer will oversee critical legal technology platforms, including vendor-provided legal applications, enterprise integration and orchestration services, and emerging AI-powered legal solutions. This individual will be responsible for designing scalable cloud-native architectures, integrating legal products across the enterprise, and delivering innovative solutions using Agentic AI and Generative Intelligence platforms.
The ideal candidate combines deep software engineering expertise with strong product ownership, operational excellence, and a passion for modern AI technologies. They are equally comfortable debugging production issues, designing APIs, reviewing architecture, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with Legal, Compliance, Security, and Technology stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the architecture, development, integration, and support of Legal Technology products and platforms.
- Design, develop, and maintain cloud-native applications, APIs, integrations, and event-driven services supporting Legal and Regulatory business capabilities.
- Actively contribute to software development through hands-on coding, code reviews, architectural design, troubleshooting, and production support.
- Integrate and orchestrate vendor-provided legal applications with enterprise systems, ensuring scalable, secure, and reliable solutions.
- Drive technical decisions related to cloud platforms, application modernization, data management, integration patterns, and AI services.
- Own product reliability, security, performance, and operational excellence, including incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Partner closely with product managers, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to deliver business outcomes.
- Design and implement AI-powered solutions using Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, and intelligent automation technologies to enhance legal operations and knowledge management.
- Partner with Legal and Compliance stakeholders to identify opportunities to leverage AI responsibly while maintaining governance, security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead experimentation, innovation, and adoption of emerging AI technologies, frameworks, and legal technology solutions.
- Own the reliability, supportability, security, scalability, and performance of Legal Technology products in production.
- Manage vendor relationships, product upgrades, integration initiatives, and platform lifecycle activities.
- Define operational KPIs, service-level objectives, and engineering metrics to ensure platform health and business value realization.
- Lead, coach, and mentor team of engineers while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning
- Influence stakeholders and engineering teams to adopt modern engineering and AI best practices.
Functional Skills- Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven architectures.
- Proficiency in Python for automation, and platform engineering.
- Experience designing and supporting highly available production systems with accountability for reliability, security, and performance.
- Strong experience with enterprise integrations, API management, workflow orchestration, SaaS platforms, and messaging technologies such as Kafka.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, container platforms such as Kubernetes, and cloud-native data services.
- Strong expertise with Microsoft Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms.
- Experience building or integrating AI-powered solutions using Azure OpenAI, LLMs, RAG, vector databases, or related technologies.
- Familiarity with AI frameworks such as LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or similar orchestration platforms.
- Experience with AI-driven search, knowledge management, or information retrieval solutions is a plus.
- Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating directly with business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in Legal Technology, Compliance, Risk Management, Regulatory Technology (RegTech), or similar domains.
- Experience with legal research, document intelligence, contract lifecycle management, eDiscovery, or knowledge management solutions.
- Experience managing relationships with technology vendors and SaaS providers.
- Experience leading cloud modernization, integration, or AI transformation initiatives.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value.

CompensationCompensation offered for this role is 120,000.00 - 193,725.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
