A growing payments technology company is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of 5-8 engineers responsible for customer-facing mobile applications, Smart Terminal experiences and the backend services that power real-time transactions. This role combines people leadership, technical direction, roadmap execution and operational ownership across high-impact payment experiences.
What You'll Do - Lead, coach and develop a team of 5-8 software engineers.
- Establish clear goals, expectations and development plans for team members.
- Conduct regular 1:1s and provide thoughtful feedback and career guidance.
- Identify performance challenges and address them constructively.
- Identify and develop future engineering leaders within the organization.
- Set technical direction and guide engineering decisions with senior engineers.
- Oversee architecture, design reviews and implementation plans across projects.
- Drive technical alignment with other engineering teams and broader initiatives.
- Translate product and business goals into technical plans and delivery milestones.
- Balance feature delivery with platform investments and technical debt.
- Partner with Product, Design, DevOps and Security to ensure delivery alignment.
- Champion CI/CD, automated testing, observability and scalable architecture.
- Manage operational health, including SLAs, incident response and on-call improvements.
- Promote engineering excellence, secure development and proactive performance improvement.
- Build a resilient, transparent and accountable team culture focused on ownership, curiosity and continuous learning.
What We Are Looking For - 3+ years of experience managing software engineers, with proven people leadership.
- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience.
- Strong experience leading mobile software engineering teams.
- Strong hands-on experience with native or hybrid mobile development.
- Strong experience with Kotlin and Swift.
- Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) is strongly preferred.
- Experience building customer-facing mobile applications and backend services.
- Strong understanding of APIs, system architecture and software engineering practices.
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing and production observability.
- Experience managing system reliability, SLAs, incidents and on-call practices.
- Strong experience translating product goals into technical roadmaps and milestones.
- Ability to balance feature delivery, platform investment and technical debt.
- Strong cross-functional partnership with Product, Design, DevOps and Security.
- Proven ability to coach, retain and develop high-performing engineering teams.
- Strong communication, accountability, resilience and stakeholder-management skills.
