Full Job Description
The Engine Networking team plays a crucial role in every play session on the Roblox platform - delivering the game state and content necessary for seamless multiplayer experiences to millions of daily active players in real time. As an Engineering Manager for Engine Networking, you will lead a talented team of engineers in scaling our game networking technology to support infinite players in infinitely sized worlds.
You Will:
• Be a part of the leadership team, influencing the direction and priorities of your teams and the larger Engine organization.
• Own roadmaps, projects, problems, and outcomes across their full lifecycle.
• Participate technically through hands-on coding, coaching, code review, technical review, and architectural guidance.
• Hire, coach, and grow engineers into technical leaders, building a high-performing team with strong engineering practices.
You Have:
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership.
• A track record of leading teams that build high-performance, low-latency systems, such as network infrastructure, real-time state sync, or content delivery, at the scale of millions of concurrent users.
• Deep experience with low-level systems programming in resource-constrained, multi-platform environments (desktop, mobile, console).
• Exceptional skills working and communicating cross-functionally with peer teams, internal and external customers, partners, and executives.
• Nice to have: a background in game engine development, game networking, asset streaming and caching, or transport-level networking (custom protocols, congestion control, QoS, Linux networking).
You Are:
• Driven to understand how systems work at every layer, from the network stack to the game engine, and to find the root cause of problems.
• Fluent in C++. We expect leaders to be deeply technical and able to dig into code.
• Curious by nature and eager to keep learning - from new protocols and platforms to unfamiliar parts of new codebases.
• A leader who builds collaborative, high-performing teams where engineers feel safe to take risks, speak up, and learn from mistakes.
