ACTIVE SECURITY CLEARANCE AT THE TS/SCI POLYGRAPH LEVEL IS REQUIRED
We are seeking an innovative, hands-on Full-Stack Java / Modernization Engineer to play a lead role in transforming a mission-critical enterprise system. In this high-impact position, you will drive the evolution of a legacy Apache Tomcat environment into a modern, cloud-native architecture powered by Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, and Angular. You won't just write code-you will influence architectural design decisions, decompose monolithic applications into resilient microservices, streamline relational database access across Oracle and PostgreSQL, and establish robust DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines.
The annual base salary range for this role is $144,000-$238,000 (USD) , which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.
Required Skills
Full-Stack Application Development: Hands-on expertise developing Java enterprise applications using Spring Boot (or similar modern frameworks) combined with modern front-end engineering in Angular or TypeScript.
RESTful APIs & Service Integration: Extensive experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining secure RESTful APIs and microservice architectures.
Relational Database Engineering: Strong background optimizing data access layers and working with relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MariaDB.
Containers & Kubernetes: Practical experience containerizing applications using Docker or Podman, alongside deploying and supporting services in Kubernetes-managed environments.
System Modernization & Design: Demonstrated experience driving application modernization initiatives, refactoring legacy codebases, and shaping modern technical architectures.
Agile Workflows & Documentation: Proven track record utilizing Jira and Confluence in an Agile environment to plan sprints, document technical designs, and track deliverables.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, PLUS 14+ years of professional software development experience OR High School Diploma / GED, PLUS 18+ years of hands-on technical software engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
Desired Skills
Tomcat to Spring Boot Migration: Direct experience migrating legacy Java applications from traditional Apache Tomcat deployments to cloud-native Spring Boot microservices.
Database Modernization & Backup Support: Experience migrating database backends (e.g., Oracle to PostgreSQL) and providing secondary/backup DBA operational support (routine maintenance, monitoring, backup/recovery).
Kubernetes Ecosystem & Helm: Deep familiarity with Kubernetes primitives (Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, Secrets, Ingress, Persistent Volumes) and distributions such as Rancher, Amazon EKS, or OpenShift, along with Helm chart creation.
CI/CD & DevSecOps: Experience creating, maintaining, and automating build, test, and deployment pipelines using GitLab CI/CD.
Data Processing Formats: Proficiency parsing and processing structured and semi-structured data formats, including JSON and XML.
