Software Engineer III, AIScottsdale, AZ About the RoleAs a Sr. Software Engineer focused on AI, you will design, build, integrate, and operate production-grade AI capabilities that support LodgeLink's customer-facing products and internal business workflows. You will apply strong software engineering practices to LLM-powered applications, AI agents, and intelligent workflow automation.
This is an experienced software engineering role dedicated solely to AI projects. You will work across existing services, APIs, data sources, and business systems to move AI solutions from concept and experimentation into secure, reliable, observable, and maintainable production systems. You will also provide technical leadership, help establish AI engineering standards, and coach other engineers as LodgeLink expands its AI capabilities.
This role is hybrid - in-office with 20% flexibility to work from home.
Responsibilities:- Develop tools and services that enable AI systems to securely interact with LodgeLink's platforms, APIs, data, and business processes.
- Integrate AI capabilities with existing applications and services using REST and other enterprise integration patterns.
- Design and implement context management, tool integration, orchestration, and evaluation patterns for production AI systems.
- Evaluate and select AI models based on quality, latency, cost, security, and operational requirements.
- Determine when AI is the right solution and when traditional software, business rules, or automation are more appropriate.
- Independently deliver features and services, proactively reducing ambiguity and de-risking technical challenges.
- Partner with Product, Data, Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and business stakeholders to deliver practical AI solutions.
- Mentor engineers on AI development practices while remaining hands-on in solution delivery.
- Communicate AI capabilities, limitations, risks, and trade-offs to both technical and business audiences.
- Document architectures, design decisions, evaluations, and operating procedures to support long-term maintainability.
Qualifications:- Proven experience designing, building, deploying, and supporting production software applications and services.
- Hands-on experience delivering AI solutions, including LLM applications, AI agents, and workflow automation.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
- Experience integrating applications and services through APIs, including REST, GraphQL, and other enterprise patterns.
- Ability to design AI solutions using tool integration, orchestration, and structured outputs.
- Experience evaluating AI systems for quality, latency, cost, security, and operational performance.
- Strong knowledge of cloud-native development, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and operational support.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across application, data, integration, and AI systems.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, strong communication skills, and the ability to explain AI capabilities, limitations, risks, and trade-offs to both technical and business stakeholders.
