Job Summary: Nova Biomedical is seeking a motivated
Software Engineer II to contribute to the development and maintenance of full-stack Windows Presentation Foundation applications for medical device systems. Working with guidance from experienced engineers, this role will develop XAML-based user interfaces using WPF and MVVM, implement C# application logic, work with SQL databases and data-access components, and support instrument communication interfaces.
The Software Engineer II will also participate in software testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and cross-functional development activities throughout the software development lifecycle. This position is well suited for an early-career engineer with strong programming fundamentals, practical exposure to .NET application development, and an interest in learning within a collaborative, regulated engineering environment.
Responsibilities: - Develop, test, and maintain Windows desktop application features using C#, .NET, WPF, XAML, and MVVM under the guidance of experienced engineers.
- Create and update user-interface components, including views, controls, styles, templates, data binding, commands, validation, and navigation.
- Implement and modify application logic and service-layer components based on defined requirements and software designs.
- Create and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, database objects, and data-access components that support application workflows.
- Assist with integrating WPF applications with instruments, local services, external systems, and APIs using established communication interfaces, including TCP/IP sockets.
- Apply asynchronous and multithreaded programming techniques, with guidance, to support responsive and reliable application behavior.
- Participate in requirements reviews, technical discussions, code reviews, and software design activities.
- Create and maintain unit and integration tests for user-interface, application, database, and communication components.
- Investigate and resolve software defects involving user interfaces, application logic, databases, communication interfaces, and deployment.
- Use debugging and troubleshooting tools to identify root causes and support effective software corrections.
- Collaborate with Software, Systems, Hardware, Quality, and other cross-functional teams.
- Maintain clear software implementation, testing, and verification documentation in accordance with established development processes.
- Apply source-control, testing, exception-handling, and software-development-lifecycle practices throughout assigned work.
- Continue developing technical knowledge of medical device software, regulated development practices, and related technologies.
Experience Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field required.
- Three years of software development experience, which may include relevant internships, co-op assignments, or substantial academic or personal projects.
- Practical experience developing WPF applications using C#, .NET, XAML, and MVVM.
- Working knowledge of C#, .NET, WPF, XAML, and object-oriented programming.
- Familiarity with MVVM and separation-of-concerns principles for WPF applications.
- Experience through employment, internships, academic projects, or personal projects involving WPF data binding, commands, controls, styles, templates, and validation.
- Foundational knowledge of application logic, service-layer components, and reusable software design.
- Hands-on experience with SQL databases, including writing queries, working with relational tables, and using application data-access technologies.
- Familiarity with stored procedures, transactions, or database schema design is desirable.
- Basic understanding of RESTful APIs, software services, TCP/IP protocols, or socket programming.
- Basic understanding of asynchronous programming, multithreading, and exception handling.
- Familiarity with source control, unit testing, debugging tools, and software-development-lifecycle practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within software and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Initiative and willingness to learn new technologies and regulated development practices.
- Exposure to C++, medical device software, regulated industries, Linux systems, or automated build tools is a plus.

Work Location: Onsite in Waltham, MA
Targeted Salary Range: $85,000 to $120,000 annually
