What You Will Contribute:


Build technology that helps customers manage one of the world’s most valuable resources—water.

As a Software Engineer II, you'll play a key role in developing, enhancing, and supporting software solutions that power Badger Meter’s products and services. You'll work across the software development lifecycle, collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems, improve customer experiences, and deliver high-quality solutions.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Design, develop, test, document, and maintain cloud-based software services and features, from initial implementation through ongoing iteration and support.
  • Analyze problem requirements and research applicable technologies to identify effective solutions.
  • Design and implement a defined component within a larger project, writing maintainable, well-structured software.
  • Debug and resolve issues in existing software and systems.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects/components, including task and effort estimation, and communicate progress, dependencies, and risks to the team.
  • Participate in Agile/SCRUM ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives) and contribute to team process improvements.
  • Participate in design and code reviews, and mentor Engineer I staff.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, security, product, and other engineering teams to deliver well-tested solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of related software development experience.
  • Experience with one or more of: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#, or Java.
  • Experience with version control (Git/GitHub).
  • Experience with cloud development (AWS preferred).
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
  • Experience with project management/tracking tools (e.g., Jira).
  • Knowledgeable of software development concepts, processes, and tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to define problems, identify root causes, and apply appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work effectively both independently and within a team, with minimal supervision.
  • Strong initiative, motivation, and curiosity, with sound judgment and decision-making skills.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with identity and access management concepts/platforms (e.g., AWS Cognito/IAM, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, Okta, Auth0, Microsoft Entra ID).
  • Experience with UI technologies such as React, HTML, CSS.
  • Experience with data stores such as Elasticsearch and MySQL.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions).
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
