Cat Digital is the digital and technology focused organization within Caterpillar, Inc. Our global team is responsible for bringing digital capabilities to Caterpillar’s world-famous yellow iron. Working with your yellow partners and Cat Dealers, we execute key components of digital and marketing portfolios, including global marketing & brand, connectivity, enterprise data, analytics and AI, equipment management, eCommerce, digital marketing, rental & used digital solutions, and aftermarket leads & insights.  

Depending on team placement, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying Caterpillar’s cutting-edge digital platform. You will contribute to building a world-class platform that supports a diverse range of digital applications. Your responsibilities will span across various functional areas, including new program development and the maintenance of existing mobile, web, and cloud systems. 

What You Will Do 

As a Software Engineer, you may:  

  • Contribute to the design, development, implementation, testing, and support of AI-powered solutions that enable Caterpillar's digital platforms, customer experiences, dealer ecosystems, and enterprise business operations

  • Identify, evaluate, and de-risk emerging technologies by creating Proofs of Technology, Proofs of Concept, and documenting the implementation patterns

  • Designed and implemented enterprise microservices

  • Enable API technologies and deploy Microsoft Fabric patterns while leveraging .Net skills to create AI agents

  • Mobile and web development

  • User interface and user experience design activities; including wire framing, prototyping, working with a complex design system, applying design thinking methodologies, creating conceptual designs and creating production-level designs  

  • Develop data pipelines code in python as well as hands on investigating and resolving software defects through code or through data modification python scripts using SageMaker notebooks

  • Use generative AI tools to assist in efficient software development, information gathering, and defect triaging, as well as hands on development of additional generative AI tools

Technologies you may use: Java, JavaScript, Python, SpringBoot, React, SQL, API's, Cloud Platforms, Generative AI, plus others 

  

What You Will Have - Skills and Experiences  

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment  

  • Effective Communications: understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors  

  • Software Development: knowledge of software development tools and activities; ability to produce software products or systems in line with product requirements  

  • Software Development Life Cycle: knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace  

  • Software Integration Engineering: knowledge of software integration processes and functions; ability to design, develop and maintain interfaces and linkage to alternative platforms and software packages  

  • Software Product Design/Architecture: knowledge of software product design; ability to convert market requirements into software product design  

  • Software Product Technical Knowledge: knowledge of technical aspects of a software product; ability to design, configure and integrate technical aspects of software products  

  • Software Product Testing: knowledge of software product testing; ability to design, plan, and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure software product quality and adherence to stated requirements  

Top Candidates May Have:  

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related degree (selected candidates must complete their degree by their start date)  

  • 0-2 years of relevant experience related to this field (internships or academic projects are a plus)  

  • Minimum cumulative GPA requirement 3.0/ 4.0 (no rounding)   

  • Experience through internships, personal projects, research, hackathons, student organizations, or coursework is highly valued

  • Locations for this position are typically Chicago and Peoria Illinois. Limited opportunities in Dallas, Texas  

  • Basic relocation may be available, depending on relocation qualifications

Summary Pay Range:

$89,210.00 - $144,960.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
