About the Role

At Advanced Space, we're enabling humanity's return to the Moon and building the technologies that will take us to Mars and beyond. We're looking for a Software Engineer with 5-8 years of experience to develop mission-critical ground and flight software that powers some of the most ambitious space missions in the industry.

In this role, you'll design, develop, and maintain software supporting spacecraft operations, mission control systems, and advanced space technologies. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to build reliable, scalable software that supports real missions-from lunar exploration to national security and commercial space programs.

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving challenging technical problems, writing high-quality software, mentoring teammates, and building systems that help shape the future of space exploration.

This position is open to U.S. Citizens only. Visa sponsorship is not available.

An active security clearance is preferred, or the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance is required.

What You'll Actually Do

Build mission-critical software.

Design, develop, test, and maintain ground and flight software that supports spacecraft operations, mission control, and next-generation space missions. Contribute across the full software development lifecycle-from new features to bug fixes and system enhancements.

Design scalable software solutions.

Translate system requirements into clean, maintainable code while contributing to software architecture, design decisions, and reusable engineering solutions. Help improve system performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability.

Collaborate across engineering teams.

Partner with systems engineers, mission designers, navigation engineers, and software teammates to develop integrated solutions that support real spacecraft missions. Participate in design reviews, sprint planning, and technical discussions.

Improve engineering processes.

Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, containerized development environments, software lifecycle improvements, and engineering best practices. Help identify opportunities to improve development efficiency and software quality.

Mentor and grow.

Support junior engineers through technical mentoring, code reviews, and knowledge sharing while continuing to expand your own expertise in spacecraft software, modern development practices, and emerging technologies.

Who Thrives Here
  • You have 5-8 years of experience developing software for spacecraft systems, mission control systems, or other complex engineering applications.
  • You have strong experience developing software using C++, Python, or other modern programming languages.
  • You have experience contributing to software architecture and translating system requirements into well-designed software solutions.
  • You're familiar with software development best practices, design patterns, version control, and code reuse strategies.
  • You have experience with CI/CD pipelines and understand modern software delivery practices.
  • You're familiar with container technologies such as Kubernetes or Docker.
  • You enjoy collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and contributing to complex technical discussions.
  • You have experience mentoring junior engineers and helping elevate software quality across a team.
  • You take ownership. When you see a challenge, you work with the team to solve it.

Bonus Points if You Have Experience With
  • Flight software or spacecraft mission control systems
  • Spacecraft autonomy or distributed systems
  • Kubernetes, Docker, or containerized deployments
  • CI/CD automation and DevOps practices
  • Systems architecture and software design for aerospace applications
  • Agile software development and technical leadership
  • National security or classified software development environments
  • An active TS/SCI security clearance

Success is Measured By
