Overview
We are seeking a full-time Software Engineer 2 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will help our team advance the frontier of our activity recording technologies that power Outdoor and Fitness wearables and products. You'll be focused on both adding and updating functionality and features to support their ubiquitous use in Garmin Fitness and Outdoor devices. Success in this role requires strong software engineering skills, enthusiasm for solving difficult technical problems, and a passion for building reliable products used by millions of Garmin customers worldwide.
Essential Functions
Use expertise in C++ and C to design, develop and maintain robust and reliable software to support activity recording, planning and training features, and file management technologies.
Investigate and resolve complex software issues that span multiple teams and products, delivering reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques.
Evolve shared technologies relied upon by Garmin Outdoor and Fitness product teams.
Break down complex and ambiguous requirements into actionable plans, identifying dependencies and risks, and developing estimates, milestones and schedules.
Provide technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs.
Proactively identify and act on opportunities to improve performance.
Expand and advocate for improvements to unit and automated testing to improve quality and reliability.
Participate in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents.
Make substantial contributions toward determination of project feasibility and exercise sound judgement in evaluating tradeoffs and risks.
Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced Software Engineers
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Demonstrated proficiency and experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in C, C++, C#, Java, assembly language, or other selected languages
Proficient knowledge, utilization and mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)
Desired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
Previous work or internship experience in design, particularly for consumer products
