Role OverviewID.me is seeking a Software Development Engineer III to join the Commerce & Loyalty team and build Shop, the platform that connects members of trusted communities (military, first responders, teachers, nurses, students, and government employees) with exclusive offers, cashback, and benefits from leading brands. You will craft the member-facing experience with a modern frontend stack (Next.js and React), shaping how millions of members discover offers and claim rewards.
This role is 5 days a week onsite in Mountain View, CA or McLean, VA. You will work on a team where AI-first development is the default: AI tooling is woven through how we design, build, test, and ship. Partnering with the Product, Design, Application, QE, API, and Infrastructure teams, you will deliver fast, delightful, and reliable experiences at scale, and hold them up under major peak-traffic events.
Key Responsibilities- Build and maintain the Shop member experience with Next.js and React.
- Develop responsive, accessible, high-performance UI for offer discovery, cashback, and rewards.
- Integrate the frontend with backend REST and GraphQL services and internal identity systems.
- Contribute to and reuse a shared design system and component library.
- Optimize frontend performance and reliability (Core Web Vitals, rendering strategy) under peak shopping traffic.
- Practice AI-first development: use AI tooling across implementation, testing, and review, with the judgment to verify and steer its output.
- Uphold the security and privacy of member data on the client.
- Collaborate across the Product, Design, Application, QE, API, and Infrastructure teams to ship features end to end.
- Write high-quality, well-tested code with automated tests and observability instrumentation.
- Participate in system design discussions, code reviews, and technical documentation.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 4+ years building web applications, with strong frontend depth in React and Next.js.
- Proficiency with TypeScript and modern frontend tooling.
- AI-first development: fluent using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) as a core part of how you build, with the discipline to validate their output.
- Proven ability to deliver features end to end, including automated test coverage, observability, monitoring, and documentation.
- Experience building in a containerized, cloud-based, infrastructure-as-code ecosystem; exposure to GCP with Docker, Kubernetes, or Nomad.
- Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs clearly and work collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications- Building and consuming REST or GraphQL APIs in production.
- Performance optimization for high-traffic consumer web (Core Web Vitals, SSR/ISR, caching).
- Experience with design systems and component libraries.
- Accessibility standards (WCAG) and building inclusive UIs.
- E-commerce, marketplace, offers/affiliate, loyalty, or payments domains.
- Backend familiarity for full-stack contribution.
- Event-driven architectures and cloud-native patterns.
