Position OverviewThe Software Developer will design, develop, enhance, and support mission-critical information systems operating in distributed environments around the world. This role works across application development, integration, automated delivery, testing, and production support, with a focus on reliable Java, Scala, and C/C++ services. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with network operations, infrastructure, and field engineering teams to sustain high system availability.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, enhance, and sustain production services and components written in Java and C/C++.
- Create and maintain interface documentation, including schemas, service contracts, and versioning strategies, and support integration testing.
- Participate in on-call rotations and operational support escalations as required.
- Collaborate with network operations, infrastructure, and field engineering teams to diagnose end-to-end failures across distributed environments.
- Develop and maintain build and deployment automation using GitLab CI/CD.
- Write and maintain unit, integration, and regression tests for critical services and interfaces.
- Follow configuration management, release management, and change-control practices required for distributed production systems.
- Rapidly troubleshoot and resolve software discrepancies to maximize system availability.
- Produce clear technical documentation, design notes, implementation plans, and operational runbooks.
Required Skills- Active Top Secret/SCI.
- Bachelor's degree and 5-12 years of relevant software engineering and/or software development experience; the final level will be determined based on experience.
- Strong proficiency in Java, Scala, and/or C/C++ with production-grade development experience.
- Experience building and supporting distributed, highly available, or operationally critical systems.
- Working knowledge of relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, and/or NoSQL databases, preferably MongoDB.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitLab CI/CD, and modern development practices including code review, branching, tagging, and release management.
- Ability to troubleshoot production issues using logs, metrics, and structured debugging methods.
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to develop clear technical and operational documentation.
Desired Skills- Experience supporting systems deployed to remote sites with intermittent connectivity.
- Experience with migration and compatibility support across major database or platform transitions, such as PostgreSQL to MongoDB.
- Knowledge of secure communications patterns, including TLS, certificates, and key rotation.
- Familiarity with message queues, event-driven architectures, and performance profiling for CPU, memory, and database queries.
- Experience collaborating with field engineering and network operations teams.
- Exposure to ELK stack patterns for operational troubleshooting and analytics.
Additional DetailsFusion Innovation anticipates the annual base salary for this position will generally range from $100,000 to $215,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to:
- Relevant education, certifications, and training
- Years of direct applicable experience with this work and the customer
- Contract labor category requirements, skill level, contract bill rate, and hours allocation
- Alignment with the position's responsibilities
- Additional specialized skills
