Software Customer Resident Engineer

Role Summary

The Software Customer Resident Engineer is Bose's primary local technical interface for General Motors (GM) Audio and Noise Management software integration across benches, development vehicles, launch, and production environments. The role connects GM with Bose software, system Integration, validation, calibration, architecture, and program teams to accelerate issue resolution, maintain configuration and issue traceability, and support high-quality software and calibration delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibility Area 1: Customer Technical Interface & Integration Support
  • Serve as the primary on-site technical liaison between GM Audio and Noise Management teams and Bose engineering teams for software integration, calibration, diagnostics, and implementation topics.
  • Support GM-led CCU integration through bench and vehicle functional checks, network and HMI diagnostics, and Bose-defined performance verification; maintain approved environments with the correct Bose software, calibrations, and program- or variant-specific BIN files.
  • Coordinate technical working sessions and provide support at GM campuses, the Milford Proving Ground, integration builds, Tier 1 locations, production plants, and early-production or field events as needed.


Responsibility Area 2: Issue Triage, Root-Cause Support & Fix Verification
  • Perform first-level triage by reproducing bench, vehicle, production, and field issues; capture logs, traces, network data, and diagnostics to isolate the likely failure domain.
  • Partner with Bose and GM teams on root-cause analysis and corrective action; verify fixes within the agreed local scope and provide evidence to the responsible teams for formal regression and release validation.
  • Maintain complete Jira records and recommend additional testing or development based on vehicle and bench findings; escalate scope, timing, and integration risks through the Customer Program Manager (CPM) and established change-control process.


Responsibility Area 3: Requirements, Release, Program & Launch Support
  • Clarify and communicate high-level system, diagnostic, and software requirements; support requirement updates and engineering change proposals.
  • Support the CPM and Bose release teams with software, calibration, and BIN-file deliveries into applicable GM systems; maintain configuration and release records and coordinate inclusion in the applicable VESCOM calibration release.
  • Track program variants, configurations, issue status, risks, and dependencies; participate in PDT, requirement, design, and FMEA reviews and provide concise status and action follow-up to GM and Bose teams.


Decision Rights:

Within approved program scope, configurations, and established Bose and GM processes, the role may:
  • Execute first-level diagnostics, issue reproduction, data capture, failure-domain isolation, and local fix verification in available GM bench and vehicle environments.
  • Maintain approved Bose software, calibration, and BIN-file configurations on assigned benches and development vehicles and coordinate technical working sessions.
  • Recommend issue priorities, additional testing, development actions, and integration alternatives based on vehicle and bench evidence.
  • Escalate release approvals, formal validation decisions, architecture or scope trade-offs, timing changes, configuration conflicts, and risks to the CPM or responsible GM and Bose owners.


Core Deliverables:

Deliverable Category 1: Integration & Diagnostic Evidence
  • Vehicle and bench functional-check and Bose-defined performance-verification results.
  • Complete evidence packages containing configurations, logs, traces, reproduction steps, likely failure-domain assessment, and local fix-verification results.


Deliverable Category 2: Issue, Release & Configuration Records
  • Complete Jira, software, calibration, BIN-file, configuration, and release records with actions, status, risks, and dependencies.
  • Requirement clarification, ECP-support, and software or calibration delivery-coordination records.


Deliverable Category 3: Program Status & Launch Support
  • Concise program, variant, configuration, issue, risk, dependency, and action-item status for GM and Bose stakeholders.
  • On-site integration, proving-ground, build, plant, early-production, or field-support findings, follow-up actions, and local workflow improvements.


Key Competencies:
  • Automotive Embedded Software & System Integration - Applies strong knowledge of ECU architecture, automotive networks, diagnostics, and software integration across complex systems; experience in infotainment is preferred.
  • Vehicle Diagnostics & Analytical Problem Solving - Uses bench and vehicle tools, logs, traces, and structured analysis to reproduce issues, isolate likely failure domains, support root-cause analysis, and verify fixes.
  • Customer Technical Communication & Collaboration - Communicates requirements, evidence, status, risks, and dependencies clearly while building trusted relationships across GM, Bose, supplier, and globally distributed teams.
  • Configuration, Process Discipline & Ownership - Maintains accurate issue, requirement, software, calibration, release, and change-control records while working independently and following issues through resolution.


Required Experience & Education

Required Experience:
  • Five or more years of relevant experience in automotive embedded software, system integration, ECU development, or supplier design and development.
  • Hands-on experience with in-vehicle and bench integration, issue reproduction, log and trace analysis, root-cause investigation, and fix verification using relevant automotive communication protocols and diagnostic tools.
  • Experience with software and calibration flashing, configuration management, release workflows, Jira, requirement-management tools, change management, and defined ASPICE or Agile engineering processes.
  • Strong customer-facing and cross-functional communication skills; ability to work independently on-site and manage multiple priorities. A valid driver's license required for GM proving-ground credentials including MPG Level 2 training, and approximately 10%-15% domestic and occasional international travel are required.


Preferred Experience:
  • Prior resident engineering or OEM-site experience and automotive audio, active sound, or Noise Management experience, including basic vehicle electrical troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with GM calibration and release environments.


Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field; a master's degree is preferred.
