About the Role:The Site Radiation Safety Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the safe handling, use, and disposal of radioactive materials and radiation-emitting devices within oil and gas extraction and mining operations. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining radiation safety programs that comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The officer will conduct regular site inspections, monitor radiation levels, and provide training and guidance to personnel to minimize radiation exposure risks. They serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders regarding radiation safety matters. Ultimately, this role ensures a safe working environment that protects employees, the public, and the environment from radiation hazards while supporting operational efficiency.
Preferred Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Radiation Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Certification as a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or equivalent recognized credential.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in radiation safety, preferably within the oil and gas or mining industries.
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state radiation safety regulations, including NRC, EPA, and OSHA standards.
- Strong understanding of radiation detection instruments and monitoring techniques.
- Advanced degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience with industrial radiography, well logging, or other radiation applications specific to oil and gas extraction or mining.
- Familiarity with environmental impact assessments related to radiation.
- Training in emergency response and incident management specific to radiological events.
- Proficiency in data management software and radiation safety information systems.
