About the role

This position maintains full ownership of shop execution, facility operations, EHS compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Oakfield rebuild facility.

The Shop Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the operation and shop personnel with the objectives of managing equipment repairs, maintain parts inventory, and providing power plants with supplies and parts by performing the following duties:

Key accountabilities

  • Provide daily, hands-on supervision and support to shop technicians; actively engage on the floor to monitor work quality, safety, and productivity
  • Lead by example in all aspects of performance, safety practices, and adherence to company policies and Code of Conduct
  • Plan, schedule, and assign work to engine and head shop personnel based on skill level, workload, and operational priorities
  • Work directly with technicians to troubleshoot issues, provide technical guidance, and ensure repairs are completed correctly and efficiently
  • Hold employees accountable for performance, behavior, attendance, and adherence to company standards; address issues promptly and consistently
  • Maintain clear, consistent, and professional communication with all shop personnel; ensure expectations are understood and followed
  • Effectively manage and respond to high-pressure and time-sensitive situations, maintaining productivity and safety
  • Manages and schedules shop personnel as appropriate in accordance with company procedures and policies. Assign personnel consistent with their respective skills and abilities
  • Communicates to upper management regarding equipment repair status, parts inventory issues, and employee problems as needed.
  • Establish and maintain quality control procedures and hold points for all shop repairs in accordance with manufacture’s repair procedures.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers and vendors in order that the company’s interest is served. 
  • Identifies and procures replacement parts for all power plant equipment.
  • Ensures shop and repair procedures are safe. Report any issues immediately to company management.
  • Works with Engine Repair Manager to establish and maintain training programs in all areas of shop equipment repairs including quality, safety, environmental concerns and proper repair practices.
  • Supervises four to five shop personnel.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • This is not a complete list of duties.  The Shop Maintenance Supervisor may be required to perform additional duties deemed necessary by management.

Technical & Process Ownership

  • Serve as equipment specialist for Rottler and Newen CNC machines, ensuring proper operation, troubleshooting, maintenance coordination, and operator competency
  • Perform and oversee complete failure analysis on engines and components; document detailed findings, determine root cause, and communicate results clearly
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all shop processes, repairs, and equipment usage
  • Establish and maintain quality control measures, including inspection points and verification processes aligned with manufacturer requirements
  • Maintain current knowledge of engine and generator repair procedures, with emphasis on Caterpillar equipment

Essential education

  • HS Diploma required 
  • 5 to 10 years of specific experience in equipment repair, plant operations and maintenance, precision machining equipment, inventory control, and scheduling multi-skilled labor personnel.
  •  3 to 5 years of experience in the direct supervision of other employees.
  • Experience with CNC equipment (Rottler/Newen preferred)
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience required

Essential experience

  • Unyielding dedication to safety and able to positively represent the company’s safety culture.
  • Knowledgeable on the use of basic hand tools.
  • Basic Mechanical and electrical experience and or training.
  • Able to understand and comprehend basic operation of all power plant equipment.
  • Read and comprehend equipment manuals.
  • The work hours are Mon.-Thur. 6am-4:30pm.  The work schedule is subject to change per business needs and management discretion.
  • Overtime maybe required to meet business needs. 
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Pre-employment physical, drug test, hearing screening and background check required.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software; inventory software; internet software; order processing systems; contact management systems and equipment programs for diagnostic purposes and monitoring.

How much do we pay (Base)? $85,000 - $95,000

*Note that the pay range listed for this position is a genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.

This position offers paid vacation depending on your years of relevant industry experience and will range from 120 – 240 hours of vacation per year for full times employees (60 - 240 hours of vacation per year for part time employees).
