Full Job Description
Boston Government Services (BGS) is seeking a Shift Technical Adviser to support our client at the Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN.

Where You'll Work:

The Y12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, TN, plays a vital role in the U.S. Department of Energy's Nuclear Security Enterprise. Y-12 provides manufacturing, technical, and scientific expertise to produce components, subassemblies, and quality evaluations to sustain a U.S. nuclear deterrent; reduce the threat from weapons of mass destruction; supply nuclear material to the Naval Reactors Program; and provide solutions to other emerging national security challenges. Y-12 has developed state-of-the-art capabilities in three core areas: nuclear technology and materials, security and consequence management, and manufacturing and technical services. Y-12 lends its specialized expertise to other federal agencies, such as the U.S. Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, state and local governments, and private-sector companies. Projects at Y-12 include providing protective equipment to soldiers in combat, training National Guard units for radiological emergencies, and creating machining platforms that improve production and efficiency.

About the Role:

The Shift Technical Advisor is responsible for providing the technical expertise to understand the approved safety basis for operations of the facility and to evaluate the impact of proposed changes/modifications on the safe operation of the facility.

Responsibilities:
  • Serving as primary support team member for the Operations Manager and Shift Manager to ensure daily operations are safe, effective, and performed in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Interfacing with support organizations to understand planned operations within the facility and ensure activities are in compliance with facility safety basis authorized work.
  • Performing troubleshooting and improvement activities for emerging issues within the operations management scope of responsibility to resolve issues and improve effectiveness in implementation of compliance requirements.
  • Serving in a project management role as needed for coordination of large, cross-cutting activities within the facility that involve multiple interfaces that cross organizational lines.
  • Presenting technical briefings or presentations, as required, that describe and explain approved facility operations and compliance implementation methods.
  • Evaluating proposed modifications or changes against the approved Documented Safety Analysis via the Unreviewed Safety Question.
  • Determining processes to ensure changes are within the scope and methods appropriate for the facility.
  • Providing on-call coverage for assigned weekends based upon a rotation with others in the group; on-call is as needed, which may or may not require weekend work for the assigned weekend.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:
  • BA/BS Degree plus 15-20 years of direct experience required or an MA or MS with 14-18 years of experience.
  • Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Successful drug screening.
  • Requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
  • Requires the ability to obtain a Human Reliability Program (HRP) Certification.


Location/Work Arrangement:
  • This position is a fully onsite position at Y12 National Security Complex.
  • Schedule is full-time, Monday - Friday 40-hour week.
