Full Job Description
Location: Cleveland, OH

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel LLC has immediate opportunities for Shift Manager Mechanical Maintenance positions at our Cleveland, Ohio facility. This front-line leadership role is responsible for leading skilled maintenance employees and directing day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

The successful candidate will drive equipment reliability, support continuous improvement initiatives, develop employee capabilities, and promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.

Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality standards; conduct safety, quality, and environmental audits in a timely manner.
  • Lead and supervise Maintenance Technician Mechanics (MTMs), providing day-to-day direction to support safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance operations.
  • Manage the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment within assigned areas to maximize equipment availability and performance.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop employees while ensuring they have the tools, training, and resources needed to perform their work safely and effectively.
  • Develop expertise in area maintenance systems and equipment to support effective troubleshooting, maintenance planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage maintenance budgets and resources using sound project management principles and a thorough understanding of equipment maintenance requirements.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Purchasing, Continuous Improvement, Accounting, vendors, suppliers, and peers across the organization to develop and execute maintenance strategies that improve equipment reliability and operational performance.
  • Weekends and shift work may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years of mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing, industrial, military, or other relevant operations environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
  • Ability to work in a demanding industrial environment, including exposure to heat, dust, uneven surfaces, stairs, ladders, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Three or more years of mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing, industrial, military, or other relevant operations environment.
  • Two or more years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in a steel manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading and developing employees in a unionized workforce.
  • Experience utilizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), preventive maintenance programs, and/or equipment reliability systems.

The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $110,000. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
