This position requires strong technical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work and exceptional customer service.
Position SummaryWe are seeking a skilled and dependable
Service Technician to troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain IP security camera systems, electronic access control systems, and related low-voltage equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong electrical and technical troubleshooting abilities, a solid understanding of networking, and experience working with both low-voltage and 120VAC electrical systems.
This position emphasizes troubleshooting and problem-solving over new installations. Candidates must be comfortable diagnosing complex issues, identifying root causes, and independently developing effective repair solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair IP security cameras, VMS servers, network switches, and related security equipment.
- Service and troubleshoot electronic access control systems, including card readers, door controllers, electric strikes, magnetic locks, request-to-exit devices, and associated hardware.
- Diagnose low-voltage electrical issues and understanding of 120v power, including power failures, faulty connections, damaged wiring, transformers, relays, and power supplies.
- Troubleshoot network connectivity issues involving IP addresses, PoE, Ethernet cabling, switches, and network communication.
- Use digital multimeters, cable testers, network diagnostic tools, and other test equipment to isolate electrical and communication failures.
- Identify intermittent problems and determine root causes rather than simply replacing components.
- Perform preventive maintenance, firmware updates, system testing, and equipment inspections.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, network diagrams, and equipment documentation.
- Troubleshoot existing installations, including systems with incomplete documentation or unknown wiring configurations.
- Repair or replace defective cameras, power supplies, control boards, network equipment, and other system components.
- Document service calls, diagnostic findings, repairs performed, and recommended corrective actions.
- Communicate professionally with customers and explain technical issues and solutions in understandable terms.
- Work independently in the field while coordinating with technical support and other team members when necessary.
Required Skills & Qualifications- Must be willing and able to join the IBEW.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification, apprenticeship, or associate degree preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience installing low-voltage security systems or related technologies.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills are essential.
- Experience with IP surveillance cameras, access control, or similar electronic security systems.
- Working knowledge of 12VDC, 24VDC, 24VAC, and 120VAC electrical circuits.

- Understanding of basic networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DHCP, static IP addresses, PoE, and Ethernet communication.
- Ability to use electrical testing and diagnostic equipment effectively.
- Experience with relays, contact closures, inputs/outputs, and basic control circuits.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and systematically trace electrical and network problems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with a variety of tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize service calls, and manage time effectively.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer locations.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with Genetec, Axis, Hanwha, HID, Mercury, or similar enterprise security platforms.
- Experience installing IP-based video surveillance and access control systems.
