Job Description:

What You'll Do

As a Service Supervisor, you will spend the majority of your time on the shop floor, working alongside your team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality repairs that support Finning's Customer Service Commitment.

Safety Leadership
  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure all work is completed in accordance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead daily safety discussions, pre-job reviews, mid-job reviews, and post-job inspections.
  • Conduct regular shop floor inspections to ensure Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) are current and effective.
  • Ensure compliance with National Safety Code (NSC) requirements, including inspections, hours-of-service compliance, and load securement standards.
  • Support ongoing safety training and development for employees.

People Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of up to 15 technicians and apprentices.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee development activities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes engagement, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance conversations to help employees grow and succeed.

Quality & Customer Service Excellence
  • Ensure repairs are completed safely, correctly, and efficiently the first time.
  • Monitor work progress and identify potential issues before they impact customers.
  • Collaborate with technicians to resolve tooling, parts, and technical challenges.
  • Review inspection findings and communicate key information to customer-facing teams to support a positive customer experience.
  • Support warranty administration, contamination control practices, and repair process management.

Productivity & Operational Performance
  • Coordinate daily manpower and bay assignments across three service bays.
  • Monitor technician productivity and workload distribution.
  • Conduct mid-job reviews to identify changes in job scope and communicate impacts effectively.
  • Ensure work is completed according to schedule while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational performance targets.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications
  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working with Caterpillar equipment and engines.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a maintenance, service, mining, construction, or heavy equipment environment.
  • Strong understanding of safety management principles and field/shop operations.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to prioritize work, manage resources, and lead teams in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience & Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Caterpillar warranty processes, product support programs, and equipment systems.
  • Understanding of contamination control, undercarriage systems, and heavy equipment repair practices.
  • Familiarity with collective agreements and performance management processes.
  • Financial and business acumen with the ability to understand operational and branch performance metrics.
  • Understanding of National Safety Code requirements and regulatory compliance.
