Job Overview

The Senior VDC Manager, SAT, leads consistent digital construction delivery across multiple Skanska Advanced Technology projects, with emphasis on mission critical, data center, semiconductor and other high-tech facilities. The role translates portfolio standards into project execution, coordinates VDC work across offices, and manages shared resources based on project demand and specialist needs. In partnership with project teams and the National VDC organization, the Senior VDC Manager applies standardized software, processes, quality controls and governance while supporting exceptions required by clients, contracts or project conditions.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead VDC planning and delivery across multiple Advanced Technology projects, ensuring consistent execution across offices, project teams and client accounts.
  • Develop project VDC plans aligned with Advanced Technology and National VDC standards, including defined deliverables, responsibilities, milestones, controls and escalation paths.
  • Author and enforce BIM Execution Plans, company-wide modeling standards, LOD definitions, naming conventions, and data exchange protocols.
  • Coordinate shared VDC resources across projects; forecast workload, identify specialist needs, resolve capacity conflicts and elevate portfolio-level resourcing risks.
  • Facilitate collaboration among participating offices through common workflows, recurring delivery reviews, peer checks, shared templates and documented lessons learned.
  • Partner with National VDC for software standards, licenses, specialist expertise, training, process updates and governance reviews.
  • Lead federated model coordination, issue management, 4D/5D planning, site logistics, prefabrication support, reality capture, model validation and digital turnover as required by project strategy.
  • Implement model and data QA/QC, health checks, version controls and compliance reviews; document and manage approved deviations from standards.
  • Translate digital deliverables into practical field outputs that improve planning, installation, verification, safety, quality and turnover.
  • Coach VDC Engineers and project personnel on consistent workflows, software best practices and disciplined use of shared project information.
  • Track delivery performance, resource utilization, risks and outcomes across assigned projects and provide concise reporting to Advanced Technology and project leadership.
  • Support pursuits and preconstruction with VDC narratives, staffing plans, constructability and logistics visualizations, and delivery assumptions.
  • Coordinate pilots and improvement opportunities through established National VDC and digital governance rather than creating project-specific tools or processes in isolation.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of VDC/BIM experience in construction, including leadership of complex projects or multiple concurrent projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with BIM execution planning, multidisciplinary coordination, model QA/QC and field implementation.
  • Experience leveraging software platforms and standardized workflows for model authoring, coordination, model management, constructability analysis, schedule integration, and digital project delivery across complex construction programs, with proficiency in tools such as Revit, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Synchro, Solibri, Tekla, and related BIM/VDC technologies.
  • An understanding of common building systems and associated means and methods, expertise in reading drawings, specifications, building codes, and other technical products and material specifications, as well as interpret and manage VDC contractual obligations and responsibilities.
  • Experience managing priorities, budgets or resources across multiple teams or projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience delivering VDC in mission critical, data center, semiconductor, advanced manufacturing or similarly complex technical projects.
  • Knowledge of reality capture methods, including 360-degree cameras, laser scanning and drone capture.
  • Strong communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills across geographically distributed teams.
  • Knowledge of project management solutions and data reporting and visualization tools such as Power BI or equivalents.
Competencies / Skills:
  • Is recognized as an expert with a specialist/authority level understanding and application in:3D Model Development: Uses software applications to develop and modify 3D models to match project requirements.

Has advanced knowledge and ability to coach/guide others in:

  • Building and Construction Knowledge: Applies building and construction knowledge, utilizing experience and current developments in the industry to safely build quality projects.
  • Data Accuracy: Leverages information within survey systems to interpret field data, align with the model and ensure accuracy.
  • Plans and Specifications: Reads and interprets design and construction plans to determine technical specifications.
  • Quality Management: Establishes processes to meet quality standards. Monitors work practices to identify concerns or issues that do not meet these quality standards. Follows contract provisions for necessary corrective action.
  • Quantity Calculations: Calculates quantities of materials needed for construction as determined by models and contract documents to generate cost estimates.
  • Schedule Adherence and Tracking: Adheres to project timelines. Tracks information important to maintain schedule adherence.
  • Design Intent: Reads and interprets design requirements to identify and communicate flaws or necessary enhancements.
  • Risk and Opportunity Management: Identifies potential risks related to operations, contracts, or project execution. Develops mitigation plans and strategies to control the impact of negative situations or to maximize opportunities throughout the life cycle of a project.
  • Tools and Technology: Identifies and uses the appropriate technology and systems to support project visualization and execution.
The Physical Side of the Role: Thisroleis primarily office-based, involving significant computer work, document review, meetings, and other administrative tasks that require prolonged sitting. However, it also includes regular visits to active job sites, where you may spend time on your feet walking on even and uneven surfaces, navigating stairs, ladders, or hoists, and inspecting work in progress. The role requires visual acuityincluding near and far vision, color perception, and depth perceptionfor reviewing plans and evaluating field conditions. While physical demands are moderate, you should be comfortable performing occasional bending, kneeling, and reaching, as well as lifting and carrying materials/equipment up to 40 pounds when needed. The work environment is a mix of climate-controlled office settings and field conditions that may involve exposure to outdoor weather for short durations. Work Environment / Conditions: This job is performed both in the office and in the field on an active construction site. Field work requires experience and confidence working in and around heavy industrial equipment and systems, which includes average to loud noises, ability to traverse uneven grounds, and possible outdoor weather conditions. Vision requires the capacity for close and far vision, the ability to adjust focus, depth perception and peripheral vision. Activities and responsibilities require frequent sitting (often working on a computer), driving, flying, walking, standing, light lifting, bending, and reaching. Due to computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists.
