Title: Senior Utility AnalystAbout this JobAs a Senior Utility Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in elevating the accuracy of our budgeting and forecasting work by applying deep expertise in usage data, rate structures, and forecasting methodology.
We're seeking a seasoned subject-matter expert who can sharpen our analytical rigor and raise the bar for how the broader team approaches forecasting. If you thrive in a data-driven setting and have a passion for getting the numbers right, this is the role for you. While strong modeling skills are essential, be prepared to go beyond running the models: you'll be a go-to resource whose judgment guides and develops the team.
Core Responsibilities- Bring deep fluency in utility rate structures, tariffs, interval data, and commodity pricing to catch what less experienced analysts miss
- Audit and improve the data pipeline feeding the forecasts, including usage data, tariff changes, and market inputs
- Own and improve the methodology behind client energy budgets and forecasts. That means tightening the assumptions, variance drivers, and modeling approach, not just producing the numbers.
- Diagnose why past forecasts were off and build in corrections. This is a feedback-loop role, not a one-and-done reporting role
- Act as the go-to expert that other analysts and the deal team turn to for forecasting and budgeting edge cases
- Work with the ABEL and the decision-engine team to check model outputs against how utilities actually behave and find where the model's assumptions break down
- Mentor junior analysts on forecasting rigor and rate-structure nuance
Required Qualifications- 5+ years of hands-on experience analyzing utility usage, tariffs, and commodity pricing in a brokerage, trading, consulting, or utility environment
- A track record of improving forecast accuracy. You should be able to explain how you've tightened forecasts over time, not just that you've built them
- Advanced Excel and modeling skills, and comfort owning complex, high-stakes models
- Strong, well-supported opinions. You push back when something doesn't look right instead of deferring to the existing process
Strongly Preferred Qualifications - Experience in deregulated energy markets specifically, not just utilities broadly
- A forecasting miss you can talk through openly, including what you learned from it
- SQL and BI tool fluency (Looker, Power BI, Tableau) so you can work directly with the underlying data instead of relying on pre-built reports
- Working knowledge of machine learning concepts and modeling techniques, with the ability to apply them to improve forecast accuracy
- Experience mining and manipulating large, complex datasets to surface trends and support data-driven decisions
