Description

A Senior Cables Engineer will lead various phases of planning, proposal preparation, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of construction documentation and Cables plans as part of a project team. This position will lead various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.
  • Leads various cable project designs, including routing, duct bank design, conductor selection, splice vault design, cost estimating, and termination structure coordination.
  • Leads production work, including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Leads a variety of assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including routing and feasibility studies, detailed design, termination structure coordination, and coordinating interfaces with other parties, internal and external.
  • Leads the quality review of designs or sketches and mark-ups on ongoing projects.
  • Presents reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geologic data to plan design projects.
  • Interprets design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Leads design deliverables within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Quality reviews drawings and calculations for alignment, cable ampacity, cable pulling, etc.
  • Incorporates and approves schedules, budgets, and project criteria into cable designs and layouts for project financial goals.
  • Organizes and maintains all revisions of project drawings, plot files, and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
  • Trains, mentors, and develops staff members.
  • Participates in marketing and client development meetings.
  • Responsible for the Cables design QA/QC process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related degree from an ABET-accredited program, and 7 years of below-grade utility engineering experience required Or Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 7 years of below-grade utility engineering experience required.
  • EPC project experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of cable equipment design codes (e.g., IEEE, AEIC, ICEA). Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong knowledge of underground and/or submarine cables construction methods and cable system equipment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead the execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
