Full Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Tax Manager who will be responsible for all aspects of HDR's global income tax compliance, planning, reporting, audits, and providing input on tax strategy. In this role you will interact with many teams across the organization and will be a liaison to coordinate the flow of information between HDR and our third-party advisors. You will provide leadership, guidance, and assistance for tax-related matters, as well as develop and refine best practices. As Senior Tax Manager, you will have a strategic, hands-on role and will report to the Director of Tax Compliance & Planning.
HDR uses a single global enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and has relatively standard processes, internal controls, and policies globally. This system design enables our teams to leverage process automation, artificial intelligence, and similar tools to perform their job duties. The Senior Tax Manager is responsible for integrating technology into day-to-day compliance, review, and reporting functions to maintain and continually improve quality and efficiency.
The Senior Tax Manager will lead a team of two talented direct reports and should have demonstrated skills and experience in developing team members and overseeing their work product.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage and partner with external tax firms in the preparation, filing and payment of company's direct taxes, including providing data, pre-filing review and reconciliation of all US and non-U.S. tax returns representing more than 500 tax filings annually.
• Assist with annual global income tax provision and accounting for uncertainty related to our income tax provision and related accounting positions.
• Maintain an internal database system that integrates with our global tax provision software, which calculates and supports our global income tax provision, including subsidiaries.
• Responsible for overseeing or performing monthly compliance and account reconciliation review responsibilities.
• Supervise, manage, and collaborate with outside tax advisors and counsels on tax audits by local tax authorities.
• Assist in the management of transfer pricing, M&A activities, and impact analysis of legislative developments.
• Advise and closely collaborate with other corporate functions, including Treasury, Finance, Accounting, and Legal on matters such as tax forecasting, restructurings, cash deployment, foreign currency matters and the capitalization of non-U.S. subsidiaries.
• Utilize available systems to proactively manage and track income tax and related filing requirements and provide reporting to stakeholders to demonstrate the status of these filing requirements.
• Manage the preparation and review of tax research and guidance provided to our operations team regarding the tax implications of cross-border project pursuits.
• Serve as a trusted business partner to global Accounting and Finance teams located in the US, Australia, UK, Europe, and Middle East who request support in interpreting and managing tax regulations.
• Oversee and manage budgets, fees, and engagements with outside tax advisors
• Develop and/or improve processes, tools and procedures for the Tax Department.
Candidate Profile:
The successful candidate must be a "self-starter" who is able to effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines within HDR. The candidate must also be a problem-solver and inquisitive with a genuine desire to understand the "why." The successful candidate must be a strong team player, capable of working successfully with tax and cross-functional teams. This person must be an effective communicator who understands and appreciates the value of challenge and diverse thought.
Essential Qualifications:
• Minimum 8+ years of corporate tax or accounting experience
• Minimum 5+ years of management experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Tax or Accounting
• Knowledge of corporate income tax, and related international tax topics
• Knowledge of ASC 740 income tax provision topics
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and manage multiple assignments
• Positive attitude and desire to be part of successful team
• Self-motivated and detail oriented
• Must be able to work independently, handle interruptions, and shift priorities, as needed
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS applications
Preferred Experience:
• Big 4 Public Accounting experience is highly preferred
• Masters Degree and/or CPA preferred
• Knowledge of and familiarity with ERP systems
• Experience with Oracle EBS, Oracle Cloud Fusion, Oracle Enterprise Performance Management is preferred
• Experience with Microsoft CoPilot, Alteryx, UiPath, and/or similar tools is preferred
• Prior experience with transfer pricing compliance and documentation
• Familiarity with tax laws and tax administration of non-U.S. jurisdictions
• Prior experience with managing fiscal authority tax audits, including performing related diligence and drafting responses to information requests on tax matters
• Mix of public accounting and U.S. outbound industry experience
• Local candidates preferred
