Full Job Description
Doeren Mayhew is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join our Fredonia Tax practice. Reporting to a Tax Principal, this is a highly client-facing leadership role. The successful candidate will meet regularly with clients, lead tax planning and advisory conversations, translate complex tax matters into clear, practical recommendations and serve as a trusted business advisor.

The Senior Tax Manager leads complex engagements, develops professionals and contributes to the continued success of the practice.

The salary range for this position is $135,000.00 - $165,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
  • Manage key client relationships and maintain a regular cadence of client meetings throughout the year.
  • Manage and lead complex tax compliance, planning and consulting engagements for privately held businesses and their owners.
  • Lead tax planning, year-end, transaction and issue-resolution discussions with business owners and other decision-makers.
  • Translate complex tax matters into practical recommendations that reflect each client's business and personal objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor by understanding clients• goals and providing proactive, practical tax strategies.
  • Review complex tax returns and related work products for technical accuracy, quality and risk management.
  • Research and resolve complex federal, state and local tax matters.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and communicate relevant impacts and opportunities to clients and internal teams.
  • Identify emerging client needs and coordinate appropriate resources across Tax, Audit and Advisory.
  • Manage engagement economics, staffing, deadlines, quality and risk.
  • Coach, mentor and develop tax professionals through ongoing feedback and career development.
  • Support recruiting, retention and talent development efforts within the Tax practice.
  • Contribute to practice operations, client service initiatives and other firmwide priorities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation or a related field.
  • CPA license required.
  • 8+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting.
  • Experience serving privately held businesses and their owners.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and state income taxation and other complex tax matters.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex client engagements and client relationships.
  • Proven ability to coach, develop and lead professional staff.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate technical tax matters into practical business recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work from and support the Fredonia, New York office.
