This role will support the Senior Tax Manager's goal of efficient and effective tax planning, research, and compliance for Federal, state and local and Canadian taxes. This position will report to the Senior Tax Manager, work closely with other members of Avant's finance team, and communicate across functions to gather financial and accounting data and serve internal and external stakeholders. What you'll do at Avant:- Prepare Federal and state income tax workpapers using Excel, Databricks, and other tools.
- Collaborate with external service providers to prepare and review Federal, state and local and Canadian income and franchise tax returns.
- Drive the preparation review of annual and interim tax provisions and disclosures.
- Prepare memorandums around Federal, state and local and Canadian tax matters.
- Compute state and local extension and estimated income tax payments.
- Timely respond to and resolve Federal and state and local income tax notices.
- Support tax planning initiatives with research tools and by effectively communicating with third-party consultants.
- Partner with Accounting, Treasury and FP&A teams to gather financial data for tax planning and compliance projects as well as prepare tax-based projection models.
- Gather information for and prepare monthly and annual indirect tax filings on software.
Why you're a fit for Avant:- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- CPA and/or Master of Science in Taxation is preferred but not required.
- 2 + years of public accounting or financial or service industry experience with either corporate and multi-state income tax compliance, or provision (ASC 740) experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with domestic sales and use tax knowledge is a plus.
- Ability to think "outside the box" to support tax planning and compliance initiatives as well as develop procedures and processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Google Drive (Google Sheets, Docs and Slides) is required, and familiarity with NetSuite and Databricks are welcomed.
- The ability to work independently and communicate tax issues clearly with non-tax professionals is critical.
This role is based on our downtown Chicago Office, located in the Merchandise Mart. We highly value collaboration and our hybrid schedule (M, T, Th in-office) enables flexibility to balance work and individual priorities.
Compensation Range:The base salary range for this job is USD $66,000 - $96,000 / Year
Employees new to Avant typically come in below the midpoint of the pay range. The compensation range is based on the level outlined in the job posting, and compensation decisions are dependent on each applicant's experience, skills and abilities.
