Summary: The Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for the various tax compliance and accounting requirements at Green Plains. As a member of a small team the incumbent will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the tax process including the preparation of tax returns and supporting workpapers, financial reporting of all taxes, and researching tax laws and regulations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Compiling and analyzing general ledger activity in order to prepare supporting workpapers and documentation for all types (income, sale and use, motor fuel, property) of tax returns.
- Preparing supporting workpapers for quarterly and annual income tax provisions.
- Populating tax compliance and tax accounting software programs and analyzing the results for accuracy and completeness.
- Analyzing tax and accounting processes and controls for compliance with regulatory requirements and developing improvements and changes where required.
- Researching and responding to notices from tax and financial auditors.
- Researching the tax treatment of transactions or potential transactions.
- Monitoring tax return filing requirements and deadlines.
- Researching tax laws and regulations for potential tax savings opportunities and implementing plans for realizing those benefits.
- Preparing general ledger account reconciliations.
Qualifications:- Bachelor degree in Accounting, Business Administration with an Accounting emphasis, or related degree
- Five to seven years of related experience with at least three years in a public accounting firm or comparable role in a corporate organization.
- Experience preparing federal consolidated returns and multi-state corporate returns.
- Experience with ERP systems and accounting for income taxes (ASC 740).
- Critical thinking and decision-making skills and the ability to use logic and reasoning to solve "new" problems on a regular basis.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to work with urgency and deadlines.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize different requests.
- Ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with OneSource Tax Provision and OneSource Income Tax software preferred.
- Experience with property taxes, sales and use taxes, and motor fuel taxes preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:- Ability to meet physical demands of the job includes but is not limited to: frequent sitting, standing, frequent computer use; frequent telephone use; some lifting or moving up to 20 lbs.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed.
- Ability to work after hours/weekends and on call as needed.
