Senior Tax Accountant - Austin TX

Description Location: Austin, Texas (begin as remote, but will move to in-office)
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: $80,000-$135,000 annually, depending on experience
As a Senior Tax Accountant, you'll play a key role in managing tax engagements for closely held businesses, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth individuals. You'll prepare and review complex tax returns, participate in strategic tax planning, conduct technical research, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients.
You'll collaborate closely with Tax Managers and Principals while mentoring less experienced team members and contributing to Keystone's continued growth.
This role is ideal for someone with
2-7 years of public accounting experience who is ready to take the next step toward Tax Manager or leadership.
What You'll Do Tax Preparation & Review - Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for:?
- Individuals (1040)?
- Partnerships (1065)?
- S Corporations (1120S)?
- C Corporations (1120)?
- Trusts and Estates?
- Review work prepared by junior staff for accuracy and completeness.?
- Prepare quarterly estimates and tax projections.?
- Assist clients with IRS notices and tax correspondence.?
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax engagements.?
Tax Planning & Advisory - Develop proactive tax planning strategies for business owners and individuals.?
- Identify opportunities to reduce tax liabilities and improve financial outcomes.?
- Participate in sophisticated consulting engagements involving:?
- Entity structuring?
- Business acquisitions and dispositions?
- Multi-entity planning?
- Mergers and acquisitions?
- Assist clients in understanding the tax implications of business decisions.?
Client Relationship Management - Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients.?
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned engagements.?
- Communicate complex tax concepts in a clear and practical manner.?
- Provide timely, responsive client service throughout the engagement process.?
Research & Technical Development - Conduct federal and state tax research.?
- Stay current on changes to tax legislation and regulations.?
- Prepare written summaries and recommendations for technical tax issues.?
- Collaborate with managers and principals on complex tax matters.?
Leadership & Team Collaboration - Mentor and coach Tax Accountants and interns.?
- Review staff work and provide constructive feedback.?
- Assist with training and professional development.?
- Collaborate with colleagues across Tax, Accounting, Advisory, Wealth Management, and Business Brokerage.?

Hybrid Work Environment This position follows a
hybrid work model based in Austin, Texas. It begins as fully remote, and will move to in-office.
Successful candidates should have:
- Reliable high-speed internet?
- A dedicated workspace for remote work?
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively?
- Willingness to attend in-person team meetings, client meetings, and firm events as needed?
Austin-area candidates are strongly preferred.
Requirements
QualificationsRequired- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- 2-7+ years of public accounting experience.
- Experience preparing and reviewing business and individual tax returns.
- Strong knowledge of Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, and 1120S.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously.
Preferred- Active CPA license or CPA candidate actively pursuing licensure.
- Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation.
- Experience with CCH Axcess or similar tax software.
- Experience serving closely held businesses and their owners.
- Prior mentoring or supervisory experience.
